Life is changing again, as if that ever stops!

Nervous about hubby (Jan 7, 2013)
Hubby went to his 3rd appt for his much needed physical.
His stress test on the treadmill did not go well.

He may need more than one intervention.
We are waiting for the cardiac cath appt. ordered ASAP
The Dr said they would probably try stents but he is doubtful
They will do the job. He may need a valve and several vessels opened.
Hi father had 4 vessels and a valve.

I have worried about him the last few years.
Like so many people -
He delayed going because he thought something could be wrong.
In addition he ignored High BP / high Cholesteral/too fatty a diet

He made the appt after going to a funeral of another friend in his 50's whom died suddenly.

I am nervous about this.
I need to be strong and supportive.
The Dr is hoping he is getting there in time to extend his life.
Both my Dads, 3 siblings passed in their 50's from heart-
circulatory issues.

Like most health issues ,
you need to attend to problems early as possible.
I hope this is soon enough for something to be done for himlove

I missed some of the best news (Jan 1, 2013)
The World Bank announced it this year ( it happened in 2010)
the extreme proverty - people living on less than $1.25 a day - has
dropped by half since 1990. It took 2 years to see progress happened
and was holding.applause

It is begining to look like the death penalty could be on the way out in the US.
I am reading articles on a weekly basis that are very positive on ending it.

I am sure there is more, I missed these two important trends.
Hoping for more Happy news, in this New Year smiley

Anybody use Calibre for ebooks and other reading? (Dec 31, 2012)
This program looks great.
Free.
I am watching the tutorial on you tube, I love video tutorials!
Anyway you can have all types of plugins converted to what you want
for all types of equipment.

I have been looking for free reading on my paperwhite kindle.
I cannot afford to be buying them and I mostly read fiction.

They can get a great amount of news too. It compiles it like twitter, my only reason to use the site.
I think I read it is UK friendly,I can check. You can share anything with anybody ( only once per item)
in any format on any reader, phone, computer etc. It converts files, keeps files. Everything
Amazon does and more , in the free categories..

I mean legal stuff, in only legal ways of course.
Has anybody tried this?
Might post on ask ,starting heresmiley

ten year hootoo anniversary (Oct 1, 2012)
I read here for 2 years before joining. Alot of university projects/talking points/entries
I never got to journals or ask.

This was one of the first sites I was interested in when I finally got the
"information highway" in 2000. I was so excited! Dial-up at 28kbps but I had
nothing to compare it to. My first journal entry was not until Oct 2002.

I thought this was the coolest site.
You could write and have an editor to check you.
Wow what an idea! It is free too!
I still think it is a great opportunity.

I am really dissapointed I have not written an entry.
I only have very minor contributions to entries.
In fact ,I wrote one on procrastination, must have never finished itlaugh
I do remember having it reviewed. I must have let it goerm
Might be rewarding if I could find it and finish it.
10 years is a record for my procrastination. No good reason to try and beat it!

yummy (Sep 30, 2012)
New to me. I may be late in discovering this treat..

avacado and papaya salsa

1 *Firm but ripe papaya
1 *firm avacado (ripe)
bit of onion
bit of celery
med tomatoe
small glove of garlic
a healthy squirt of lime juice ( I have used a spoonful of nearly frozen limeade in a pinch)
tad of fresh cilantro

It's very colorful!smiley
* to me it's Important to have firm for appearance , texture.

You can mash it more like quacamole , way different texture.
The balance has more avacado than papaya. Average size of each works.
There are lots of substitutes you can do! Diferent added fruits or berries.

adult playgrounds - no,NOT that kind! (Aug 19, 2012)
NYT had an article, complete with helpful pics about installing more adult playgrounds in the parks and greenspace.
They had an impressive number and variety of outdoor equipment. Nothing like the kids- real gym type movements
with resistance and counter balances etc. I do not subscribe to the NYT so I can only read 6 articles a monthwah
I cannot get a link due to my limit for the month being up. It is very impressive! People are flocking to the ones they
have , so the city feels the free program will pay for itself in no time. There are other cities wanting to follow suit.

Synchronicity - zen- time (Dec 10, 2008)
An update on myself that will dribble out over the next few posts after this one.
rocket I need a re-entry post for anybody that is intersted to catch up with my life.

First! I am so glad to be back a bit more reguarly and I do hope it lasts. I feel very fortunate to have friends that have remained here on h2. It is a sort of home and family to visit. I felt that way early on and still do.

********************

When I popped in semi-reguarly while trying to build up steam I saw so many deaths and new serious health issues. A lot of very good folks I am lucky to know a bit, have had tragedy and losses in their lives.

***Vist the h2g2 memorial page if there is a chance intermittant hootoo-ing has also been your circumstance the past year or two.
Wish I had the link to it handyerm

It is often the 2 or third year after losing somebody close which is the hardest. Grief has a way of numbing and binging many folks around. Later on is when the reality of several missed special moments, holidays. birthdays have come and gone , making the reality too painfully clear for some. Remember those folkslove living with a painful loss after a few years.

The same goes for those lossing or letting go of life as you knew it, needing a fresh start. goodluck

Hitchhikers got me through (Aug 31, 2007)
While my extended icky health period has been occuring I have warched the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy uncounted number of times. I also watched Young Frankenstein and Harold and Maude a lot(Thanks Jellen)but not nearly as many times.

I love it more each time.
It is a treat! I did not miss the billions of unspent dollars in special effects either. I think it is wonderful and the special effects they had at the end in particular were perfect.

How many times have others seen it?
Does it lighten your spirits?
Does it kind of grow on you?

Withoout being on the site - it helped also though bittersweet.
Imissed it but maybe not as much , knowing I would be traveling through the galaxy once again!

Total Lunar eclipse (Aug 30, 2007)
I had no idea how beautiful one could be!
I am sure I have seen one before , or near total.
Never one so spectacular.

It was a red ball.
For a short while a bright light of a plate was beneath the massive red apple vision. As if Mars was exremely close.

A pefectly clear sky opened up a few monutes before and the 2 hour show was well worth getting up for. I am glad I did.

Next September there is one.
I do not know if the redish orange color is always present to some degree.cool

Happiest dog ever (Jul 29, 2006)
Our buddy was euthanized in our home yesterday.

It was the most peaceful of all the experiences I've had with losing animals. I would recommend if in a similar mindset and situation. It is not for everybody.

Our buddy had cancer and was going to get worse.
He perked up after an appointment a while back in which he was ill and diagnosed. He did well again for a month or so, but was failing more every few days.

We loved sharing our life with him dog We are happy he had a peacefully spoiled retirement after his life long buddydog died 2 years ago and before his illness set in.

We love you both very much and always willdog dog

twinny and I (May 23, 2006)
Twinny and I are enjoying our time together.
I hope this is an excused absence from hootingwinkeye

I wanted to share our favorite special moment.
I was going to post on WB's nature page but we wanted to be sure and remember it, so I'm placing it here.

Bird watching throughout the day through the new windows she enjoys as much as I, we saw this;

We see the same two birds fly in and land on the wires just above the feeder and inches from the window.

We noticed one was either one legged or injured.
Watching hopeful the leg would drop we witnessed the adult bird repeatedly bring the adult partner seed and drop it into the partners mouth.

Neither of us ever witnessed an injured adult bird being fed by another onelove Seed, not worms.

Maybe it is common, in any case, it was an umcommon gift delight for us!

disco disco disco
I hope things are pretty good for all of you.
Let me know if you can or I'll catch you later for sureok
Twinny is here for another week.

I think of you hootooers every day.
A special hug for Willem whom I read was feeling extra lonelyhug I hope it as passed.

Today is International Very Good Looking, Damn Smart Woman's Day!

I have received this message from a Very Good Looking, Damn Smart Woman!

Motto to live by:

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other,(substitute appropriate things in hand for *you)

A body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride! You don't stop laughing when you get old, you get old when you stop laughing.

No! Not the neck (Jan 23, 2006)
Craptastic - the Nuerologists feels it is my neck causing the major problems.

Neck MRI tomorrow, then surgeon.

I was hoping the lower body stuff could be fixed by a lower back surgery once they started talking surgery. One of those on my low back worked so well and it is much less risky.

I wanted the low back to be the spot to enterwah not my neck.
Might be another round of sorry gotta live with it.

Why can't..... (Jan 23, 2006)
I understand why there is a neccesity for non-smoking bars ,and other public places. It does not work well to have partail smoking sections in the same building.

Why can't there be a provision for business ( mainly bars and food places) to apply for a smoking license?
Pay a fee just like business does for liquor license and have it posted as a smoking bar.

I do not know how the UK deals with liquor and/or licenses.

In the US some states have government liquor stores, some counties are totally dry ( no alcohol sales). Here they discuss different city or county rules.
Business would suffer if the customers could cross the street to get their preference.

Only those desiring to smoke will go into them and work in them.
It would be a low percentage of bars.
It does not work to have smoking sections and has been proved!

A federal license , apply like other types, be suspended if you allowed under age smoking. Have it be a governemnt smoking bar if neccessary with required good air circulation by the owners.

I believe.... (Sep 22, 2005)
I believe-

That we don't have to change friends if we understand that friends change.

That no matter how good a friend is, they're going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.

That true friendship continues to grow, even over the longest distance. Same goes for true love.

That you can do something in an instant that will give you heartache for life.

That it's taking me a long time to become closer to the person I want to be.

That you should always leave loved ones with loving words. It may be the last time you see them.

That you can keep going long after you feel you can't.

That we are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel.

That either you control your attitude or it controls you.

That regardless of how hot and steamy a relationship is at first, the passion fades and there had better be something else to take its place.

That heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences.

That money is a lousy way of keeping score.

That my best friends and I can do anything or nothing and have the best time.

That sometimes the people you expect to kick you when you're down, will be the ones to help you get back up.

That sometimes when I'm angry I have the right to be angry, but that doesn't give me the right to be cruel.

That maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you've had and what you've learned from them and less to do with how many birthdays you've celebrated.

That it isn't always enough to be forgiven by others. Sometimes you have to learn to forgive yourself.

That no matter how badly your heart is broken, the world doesn't stop for your grief.

That our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become.

That just because two people argue, it doesn't mean they don't love each other. And just because they don't argue, it doesn't mean they do.

That you shouldn't be so eager to find out a secret. It could change your life forever.

That two people can look at the exact same thing and see something totally different.

That your life can be changed in a matter of hours by people who don't even know you.

That even when you think you have no more to give, when a friend cries out to you, you will find the strength to help.

That credentials on the wall do not make you a decent human being.

*From my Auntiesmiley

warning - lawyer joke (Mar 30, 2005)
Lawyers should never ask a witness a question if they aren't prepared for the answer.

In a trial, a Southern small-town prosecuting attorney called his first witness, a grand motherly, elderly woman to the stand. He approached her and asked, "Mrs. Jones, do you know me?"

She responded, "Why, yes I do know you, Mr. Williams. I've known you since you were a young boy, and frankly, you've been a big disappointment to me. You lie, you cheat on your wife, you manipulate people and talk about them behind their backs. You think you're a big shot when you haven't the brains to realize you never will amount to anything more than a two-bit paper pusher. Yes, I know you."

The Lawyer was stunned! Not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and asked, "Mrs. Jones, do you know the defense attorney?"

She again replied, "Why yes, I do. I've known Mr. Bradley since he was a youngster too. He's lazy, bigoted, and he has a drinking problem. He can't build a normal relationship with anyone, and his law practice is one of the worst in the entire state. Not to mention he cheated on his wife with three different women. One of them was your wife. Yes, I know him."

The defense attorney almost died.

The judge asked both counselors to approach the bench, and in a very quiet voice, said, "If either of you bastards asks her if she knows me, I'll throw your sorry asses in jail for contempt."
