Journal for Researcher106694

1978 Purple (Feb 9, 2011)
Someone, somewhere, is paid actual money to name paint colours. Part of me wishes to be that person, but most of me knows I wouldn't be able to keep a straight face long enough.

Scottish Pound Note (Jun 30, 2010)
I found the Scottish Pound Note the other day, when clearing out my old bedroom. I think it's been a bit water damaged over the past 10 years, but it's still intact! I will scan it - writing this now to remind myself smiley

10 years (Dec 27, 2009)
I really didn't expect that D:

Just ploughed back through all my journal entries on here. That was an experience! I am glad I am over my emo poetry phase, that's all I'm saying.

Ah well - hope h2g2's around for the next 10 magic

And it all came tumbling down (Nov 2, 2005)
So many people are leaving. My friends are leaving. We volunteered, we came through the move to the bbc, we came through moderation, SSO, numerous trolls, numerous server issues, numerous bugs, times when h2g2 wouldn't load, times when you had to keep moving threads as they would crash browsers, times and times... and now people are going.

I always told myself I wouldn't turn around one day and say "I am leaving h2g2, goodbye". And I won't. But I won't necessarily be staying so much, either.

If you read this... (Oct 27, 2004)
...please let me know how you're doing. It's insanely long since I last posted a lot here, and I miss how it used to be...bluebutterfly

I've been pretty busy, doing a course in network administration. I've finished the taught part of the course now, and I passed my first exam bubbly but I still have two more to go so I'm pretty busy, and procrastinating horribly about revision, which I'm afraid is par for the course!

I don't want to be pimping here, but if you ever want to catch up with me, check out my livejournal http://joannastar.livejournal.com/ - I started journalling on dedicated site when I felt I was using my journal here too much, and since last year when I broke my arm I've gotten more and more into 3d digital art, which I won't pretend I'm great at but I can share my pictures on my lj and can't here. :/

Anyway... take care of yourselves. tea magic smiley

Collective Session (Mar 11, 2004)
On Tuesday evening, Andy and I went to the collective session 05 (I think!), the first to be held in Manchester. It was cool smiley The bands in session were Ram, who were local, and Chikinki, who come from Bristol. I enjoyed them both but personally liked Ram better, although I think probably Chikinki may go on to bigger and better things because they are... well, unique.

(Aside: I don't like using 'unique' to describe something. Of course, everybody, and every band is unique, and it's too tempting to say 'more unique', which I really dislike. Perhaps I should have said unconventional, or different. Nevermind)

The session was recorded, so if you stop by collective later there'll probably be a link, if you want to watch/listen to it.

But not for me... (Feb 12, 2004)
So I just resigned as an ACE. I'd like to make it clear that I did it not because I feel uncomfortable about anything, and not because of anything that's happening on site, it's just that for a long while now I haven't really felt that I've been contributing much as far as being welcoming's concerned, and that I should give up my badge so that someone else can have a go.

I remember longing to be an Ace years ago (yes, really!) when there weren't very many and newbies weren't all being welcomed as efficiently as they are today, but I don't feel that way anymore, because there are loads of great Aces around, and new features to stop them leaving people out, and such cool

Anyway, it's been fun smiley cheers everyone.

Eid Mubarak (Nov 25, 2003)
Happy Eid, to anyone who celebrates it smiley
I heard fireworks earlier, and the local news is reporting on the celebrations in Rusholme, in the Curry Mile.

I loved Eid (Eid-al-Fitr? I always get confused about which Eid is which) when I was young because my primary school was dominated by moslem pupils, and about 6 in a class of 30 would make it into school, so we just played. And coloured cards with Eid Mubarak on in Urdu and Gujarati, and patterns that I'd completely forgotten about until I checked out BBC religion's Eid email postcards earlier.
