the collective is starting a weekly serial written by collective members: A4191419
there are going to be up to 6 main characters who regularly appear and who are being designed by worallwoman.
it will have a sci fi / fantasy theme and there's an opportunity for some artists to help illustrate the story as it goes along, if that sounds interesting to anyone.
leave a message here if you are:
a) an artist b) interested c) all of the above
I suppose..... it depends on the illustration needed...
hi dr anthea
anything that illustrates the story would be great. it's going to be published every monday with its own area on the collective including galleries for the character designs and illustrations.
each episode is going to be 300-500 words long and involve 4-6 main characters. you wouldn't have to illustrate any specific part of the story, just whatever inspired you.
what do you think?
are the italics all right with this?
yep, italic row's setting up the space and is going to be posting up the episodes and images on the site.
I think Dr A meant the h2g2 Italics - and we're fine about this
then I'm happy to do some artwork
that's great, thanks Dr A and the italics
there isn't a start date yet but the first episode should be published in the next few weeks so i'll keep you updated.
like the duck cartoons
*is amazed* someone likes the ducks....
well, er.... if you could manage to tell me how this will all work, with the pictures and such i would be very happy

I like the ducks too
Hi I'm Khamsin and I usually fly as the Doctors Wing man and general dogsbody
hi Dr A, the illustrations are going to go into popup galleries alongside the episodes, which are going to be around 300 words long and converted into gifs. the episodes are going to be sent in every friday and then published on the following monday, but the story's going to be written collaboratively on a collective thread so there's going to be a clear idea some time before the end of the week about what's going to happen in the following episode.
do you think it's possible to get an illustration finished to go with an episode as it's published? that's going to be really short notice, but it would be fantastic if you could.
the first episode's going to be published a week on monday and it looks like it will involve josh, who fights with a dragon in a tesco's carpark, and the introduction of two members of the superstitions and demonic containment division (s.d.c), a kaftan-wearing penguin and a bad-tempered crocodile, who josh also ends up fighting with in a bar. worrallwoman's working on drawings of the penguins for next week sometime, so it could probably be arranged with row the italic to forward those on to you if you wanted to see them.
what do you think?
images are sent in to the collective by email and can be any size, just not bigger than 10mb per email and 72 dpi is preferred but not vital.

hi khamsin, welcome to the duck apprectiation thread
so what dimentions would you prefer the pictures to be? do they need to have a black border or not? are you seriously saying i could send you a 10mb file....
*faints*
p.s
kham is my fiancé its his job to say nice things about me
yep, up to 10mb. row's used to dealing with photos, so file size isn't a problem.
you don't have to add any borders and row prefers images as large as possible. the normal photo gallery size would be the same size as your "duck's surreal day in the park" cartoon A3797157, so at least as big as that would be good. this is what the photo galleries looks like:

someday I will wake up from this.... but till then
*goes to practice drawing dragons*
great
we're going to try writing each episode a week in advance so there's time to illustrate it before it's published. the first episode's published a week on monday. if you contact italic row at collective(a)bbc.co.uk then she could send you a copy. it has josh's confrontation with the dragon/giant lizard in a supermarket car park. the second episode will have josh's first meeting with the demon-hunting crocodile and penguin in a bar.
the address, btw, to send illustrations (as jpg) is collective.photos(a)bbc.co.uk
hi Dr A, how's it going
did you get the text of the story from row?
