Hi there NeoPathFinder, thank goodness you got here safely, we’ve all been wanting to meet you for ages.
Don’t be afraid, at least not yet. 
You may be here because you love the works of Douglas Adams, or you may have stumbled upon us through an internet search, but however you came to be here - welcome.
The main reason for our existence is the growth of the Edited Guide to Life, the Universe and Everything, if you’re interested in adding to our living, growing guide please read the Writing-guidelines and we’ll see you in PeerReview. 
Now that you know who I am I’ll tell you why I’m *really* here. 
My name is Fizzymouse, and I’m a researcher just like you, but I’ve been hanging around here for quite a while and sort of know the form. I joined a group called the ACEs who do the BBC a favour by welcoming all newcomers. My friends around here call me Fizzy – so why don’t you. 
Hootoo, as we affectionately call h2g2, is a really big place - but at the same time it’s quite an enclosed community, so it pays to take your time and get a feel for the place.  For a while you will be referred to by some people as a newbie, that’s a term of endearment for newcomers – not an insult! Hootoo isn’t a chat room, but there are places where chat happens at MiscChat, or Askh2g2. You may want to lurk around for a while without posting, that’s okay, and how most of us start out. 
As well as the Edited Guide to Life, the Universe and Everything, we have our own newspaper ThePost, and an underguide, so I’m sure you’ll find something you like somewhere around the place. 
Oh, before I forget, there are some really important HouseRules, which you should take a read through, as well as some netiquette A3766070, just to keep you right.
Before I go you might want to find out how to make the smileys - they’re all here A155909, and if you want to dress up your Personal Space you’ll find some help with guideml here A187229.

Thanks for getting back to me NeoPathFinder - I see you've made a start on your Personal Space - that usually encourages others to answer your questions .... when they can see a bit about you.
You will find all sorts of people on this site - some religious, some most definitely not, but all of them believe vehemently in whatever they're espousing.
If you need any help or just a friendly word - just shout on this thread and I'll get back to you as soon as I'm online.
Yes I realize that about people. I mean, the site's founder Douglas Adams was a self-described "radical atheist". I also ran into the "Christians on H2G2" group in a google search A202519
h2g2 is made up of a diverse mass of people, the vast majority of whom are very different from me in ideological terms. That is, in short, a major reason for my coming here.
Good ... I'm glad you came and even glader that you know the sort of people you're likely to run into.
You've chosen a hard path in here as I'm sure some other of the Christians will tell you - but you seem quite able to handle it .... so 
Yeah. I have radically different ideas from the vast majority of Christians and Biblical references to back them up. I'm wanting to find out if this different message might have a different effect/reception with people - particularly people with the academic European atheist mindset.
but of course i've got to be really careful not to be offensive or ... what is the word I am searching for ... overbearing/overconfident .... so sure of one's self that one tramples others feelings ... like someone who proposes a theory that makes themselves seem important ... I think the word starts with "A" but I can't think of what it is 
Arrogant. That's the word. I need to be sure I'm not being arrogant.
There's no shortage of arrogance around here either I'm sorry to say.<sad>
Still, if you take time to consider your responses and treat everyone with respect you could acquire yourself a number of friends.
