I have often had to sit in the tea room at work while certain members of staff (golfers themselves) watch golf on TV. I glance across at a bunch of badly dressed people having a long walk across a mown field. A little later I hear a "Thwok", and look towards the TV - to be rewarded with five seconds of sky, followed by the ball appearing on the field, then more walking...
As such, I choose not to socialise with these people, further validating your argument. If it was Full Contact Golf, I might be more tempted to watch... and even join in, clubbing the aforementioned golfers from behind as they watch the TV...
Might I, at this point, suggest Full Contact Archery?  
 you can certainly suggest it! Might not get you very far, but by all means suggest it
