The info page is a little broken, but nonetheless amusing, in the "Plain" skin. Confidently, it tells us that:
"Researchers have become members since we launched on April 28, 1999."
and
"There are currently Edited Entries in the Guide."
Both, in memory of Douglas Adams, no doubt, being entirely accurate and completely unhelpful.

One would think that the least that it could do would be to re-direct a traveller to the menu of a take-away restaurant that may have ceased to exist in 1986
Sadly, I can think of a lot of restaurants that have ceased to exist since 1986. Yes, there are edited guide entries. There are also quite a few unedited ones, some of which will be edited someday. Might something be added to indicate that some kind of process is used to turn unedited entries into edited ones?

Peet@post 377 - You can still stumble into the Hub but it seems to be on hold :- http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/hub/ Pages and posts still available unlike Book of the Future where articles and pages have gone without trace.
"We have seen the future, and it's not there."
<<No big deal but no one seems to have noticed the absence of the traffic lights. A quite useful gadget for seeing which post has been replied to and to follow certain topics forward when a thread gets cluttered with anchors. >> ~jwf~ in post 374.
*jumps up and down waving arms* I did, I did! And more. At present, you can't tell if you're on the last post of a conversation. Most disconcerting!

The Eds answered it in Post 9.
And kea (Post 352) <<Which is Sam and which is Zelmo?>> They're both better-looking than in that picture.
There's an advertising banner at the top of this page that Rev Nick posted earlier:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/beta/approved_entry/A29321372
It's doesn't show in the dna/alabaster version.

Hmm...that showed the first time I clicked on it (about 5 minutes ago), but now it's gone. Don't know if that's my software detecting it as an ad and deleting it, or whether it's been removed?

No adverts seen from this local either ...
I can't see it now. It wasn't on the Ask or FP either, at that time.

Just to be clear that we're talking about the same thing, the advert I saw was for the BBC's Children In Need campaign. Is that what you saw Kea?
RF
Yep
It's the banner below the black bbc home one on this page:

A lurk around H2G2 would suggest that it presents the beginning of an end to the original h2g2 - "Powered by DNA, the BBC's community website engine". How can this :- http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/beta/user/U197657 become this :- http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/U197657/about#abme
Can such a transformation ever occur ?

The second URL is wrong, it should be
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/U197657#abme
or http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/U197657#abme

DNA wasn't the original h2g2. h2g2 only moved to DNA later on, and can certainly move off it again.

Was h2g2 driven by DNA when the BBC took over ?

I don't think so. Can't remember.
