Reading the BBC News opinions about London winning the 2012 bid, I came across this:
"Amazing!!! Just spoke to my brother who is in Paris. They are understandably depressed, the reporters there are all saying the decision defies logic. This will unite Britain, it will make us all feel proud to be British once again."
I rather enjoy the implication that the best reason to be proud to be British is that we beat the French and didn't deserve to (from a dark humour point of view, I should point out).

Yes, I watched one stupid reporter interviewing people in Paris about their reaction, and as the noise of the jeers increased I was wondering how long it would take for people to throw things at him.
One wonders whether there would be as many French people whinging about the cost of the Games as there are over here?

I reckon it's all down to chirac's comment about disgusting british food being almost as vile as Finlands, Finland had a decisive vote & seems to have used it to poke a sharp stick in the eye of the frogs.
