I'm from "over the pond" and i spell  doughnut. When I actually spell it.

I thought it ought to be spelled doughnut too. However, I can see that the shorter spelling is easier to type.
A couple of smileys have more than one spelling/name which will work though - more if you include the original text versions of the basic ones. Perhaps donut/doughnut should have been another emoticon with multiple options.
