Hey Shanana - you`re the very first Cannibalistic Banana I`ve ever met. I`m glad you are on line as this means the numbers of the class of 167 have risen to a majestic 4 !
Between me and thee are a wasteland of empty researcher spaces and cobwebs. Such a promising brood and so few of us left.
I`m in Australia - has New Year reached you yet ?
Have a happy one anyway
Red
Red Dog,
I'm so sorry I've neglected to check my postings for three months!!! I'm awful, dispicable and everything else! I guess that means that, yes the New Year has reached us! lol
Anyhow, Depending on where in Oz you are, I'm possibly 18 to 21 hours behind you. We poor Alaskans are so deprived - we get everything last and then we don't even have true days!!! But at least we're nearing our half-way point!! It's so lovely to be able to go to school and have light... ::weep:: It does wonders for the Alaskan psyche!
you probably think I'm nuts... But then again, that's allowable, as it *is* March, the Iditarod just started, and it's still three weeks until Spring Break.
May I be so bold as to ask what the class of 167 is??
Shanana the thawing Banana
Hi there - sunny downunder calling frozen upover . We have our own version of cabin fever here - in the Northern Territory (up near the equator) it's called going 'Tropo" (as in tropics) .... so we're well used to nutty behaviour and I always reckon it makes people a little more interesting .
But seriously no I don't think you're nuts - I work for Phillips Petroleum in Aus and I have quite a few friends I've met over the years from Kenai or from Anchorage who used to work for ARCO so I've found a bit out about the place ... it's always intrugued me.
The "class of 167" thing was just a reference to our common user numbers as me and thee are in the 167 series and it just struck me that you could liken them to the US school system - class of 2001 and all that. We're an endangered species with only 4 of us still online . But I guess that actually makes us special and unique as well
I've decided I really should be shot. I need to reply to my postings more often than once a month. I really am a rather fastidious person, but of late I've been going insane and not doing everything I should. You see, it is the final quarter of the school year and everything is culminating into something. I'mnot quite sure what, but something important and grandiose, I'm sure. If not, I'll be severely disappointed.
Anyhow, I resolve to not let things like this linger for nearly as long as I have and I promise to respond in a timely manner, so help me God!
I must say, I'm impressed! I didn't realise Phillips had an Aussie branch. Do they pump down there, or is it strictly import? Also, I thought all Alskan oil was jealously horded by the US - so where else does Phillips thrive? You also impressed me with your casual reference to Kenai. You obviously do have contacts - have you ever been to visit? If not, you really should. Of course, I say this selfishly as an Alaskan in that all visitors boost our economy, but I also say it as an environmentalist whacko who appreciates "all things bright and beautiful" (to borrow from the song)and Alaska certainly is that.
So what makes up this "going tropo" thing? I mean, it probably doesn't include the axe murders we get here or the snow-machine trips or people wandering odd butt-naked into the snow. I would think that in the tropics ya'll could actually keep hold of your faculties, as there's a freedom of movement allowed. Perhaps not, though.
You'll pardon my incessant interrogatory manner. I'm a ver inquisitive individual, and we've already established that I'm somewhat nuts. Fortunately, the light situation has improved drastically and I think I'm regaining a bit of sanity (hopefully not too much, or else I'll turn into, well, a rather boring person to put it nicely).
Again, please pardon me for my tardiness!
Well it's my turn to apologise .... I've just been reassigned by PPCo from beautiful Western Australia to Bartlesville Oklahoma and I've been offline for a couple of weeks.
Phillips i sdeveloping a big field in the Timor Sea between Aus and Indonesia and climate wise it's about as far away from Alaska as you can get. Equatorial, monsoon weather, hot n humid. We pump gas onshore where it's liquified and exported to Asia just like Kenai.
Phillips is also big in China, the UK and Norway.
I've never been to Alaska but it i shigh on my list of priorities and now I'm stateside I'll get a chance to do it. Yippee !!
Going tropo is like cabin fever from what i've read but it is the constant rain and humidity that gets to you. Theer is lots of thunderstorms and the barometri cpressure goes right up high. People get headaches a lot and the crime rate rises dramatically. As a social phenomenon it is really inteersting. Living through it isn't !
Got a million postings to catch up on so I'll see ya later
You poor, poor man!! Oklahoma?!? How could they reassign you someplace like that?? Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the Southwest after having spent far too much time there. Then again, it does have some charms. The best thing about OK is its incredibly central location, which I envy tremndously. Don't get me wrong - I love AK - but the problem with living up here is getting anywhere else. It's either a 3-day drive through Canada or a rather expensive flight down to Seattle. Ah, joys.
So how are you enjoying your relocation? I mean, is it just you, or did they move anyone else that works with you, family, or whatever? Or do you already know a few of your Oklahoman peers? Are you good and settled in yet?
Sorry, I'm not meaning to be nosey, it's just that I'm a very...inquisitive person.
Anyhow, I should go to bed if I plan on actually going to school tomorrow. I've had this flu or whatever it is for several days now and have missed school all week. Lovely, too, considering the AP exams are next week... Time to start stressing!
