I can sign into the site and my space shows my messages and conversations and things, but when I try to see the latest messages in the Petty Hates thread, the screen just goes white. Refreshing it does nothing, it doesn't even load all the way. Help?

At the moment the new version of the site ( www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2 ) is experiencing some problems.
If you switch back to the old version of the site by visiting www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2 it should solve the problem for now, although the site will look different.
I hope this helps. If not, please post again and we'll see what we can do.
