Entry: Missouri, USA - A2919477 Author: broelan - [Collaborators needed - not 'Done' yet!] - U155058
In response to Challenge h2g2 and a hopeless attempt to raise Missouri to the lofty status of, say, Pennsylvania or Ohio in the Guide, I offer these ramblings on my home state.

I read this as soon as I saw it in the info page (so I have a bit left to read) but I should point out that before I give up a bit of Ohio's power in the guide I will destroy you all.
- off to read the rest.

Hi Brolean. Under Missouri facts and figures you could include our newest symbol. This year's legislature designated the Hypsibema missouriensis as our state dinosaur.
The dinosaur is a Hadrosaur that is unique to Southeast Missouri. It was about 35 feet long, stood 10 feet tall and weighed about as much as an elephant. It lived during the late Cretaceous period, about 67 million years ago.
Ohio doesn't have a state dinosaur.

'refrigeragion'
"the Baldknobbers Theatre is a Branson original, there before Branson was 'cool'."
So when exactly will it be there?
I don't see much in the way of needing changes as far as I can see...
Genevive -- should that be Genevieve? capital building -- should it be capitol building?
Preisdent --> President expedtition --> expedition destroyed by fire in 1937 --> destroyed by fire in 1837 Independence, St Joseph, St Louis and Independence --> Independence, St Joseph and St Louis

Jules, I was referring to this - C185 Ohio and C119 Pennsylvania ...although I noted that California, Texas and New York all have more entries than Ohio - Jodan, you slacker!
And, Jodan, Branson *was* cool... about 25 years ago. Commercialism has ruined it as far as I'm concerned. But I couldn't resist including 'Baldknobbers'.
Hypatia, I've tucked our Hadrosaur in with the fossil snippet. Purely because Ohio doesn't have one
Typos corrected, and yes, capital s/b capitol but only when referring to the buildings . Thanks Gnomon .

I know. We're fifth, I believe. But we'll pass Texas soon. And then we'll take over C88 completely!
And then we'll get a state dinosaur.

Nothing like a good challenge. I lived in Texas for nearly 20 years. I'm sure if I put my mind to it I could increase the Texas offerings.
Please note Jodan isn't trembling. He knows I don't have time to write anything.
Are you counting articles that just mention the state or actually about the state? Just curious.

There are currently 25 Edited Entries about my birth county (kind of = state, although less so legal-stuff-wise), the wonderful Yorkshire! So we don't need a dinosaur!

I remember Branson when it was nothing more than a few souvenir shops and bait shops. The main drag had a built up wooden sidewalk on one side of the highway and there were a few picnic tables on the other side near the lake. This was when I was a girl - xx years ago. The souvenir shops specialized in little cedar trinket boxes and items made out of black walnuts - the actual nuts, not the wood from the trees. And the road signs were crazy. If you didn't actually know where it was, you'd never find it. The only reason we went there was because my dad was an avid fisherman and we managed to hit all the lakes, rivers and streams at one time or another.
Branson didn't take off until Silver Dollar City went in. Now it's a haven for has beens and wantabes. You couldn't pay me to drive over there in the summer. But.......it is absolutely beautiful at Christmas. Really spectacular. If you're going to go, then go in December.
whys Kansas City not in Kansas (anymore) ?
Is that worth mentioning why missouri have kansas city ?
BTW my home county of Essex have 11 EG entries, not bad, and at least we didn't have to have a project to bump up our number like Yorkshire !!

That's 'cos you have nothing worth doing a project about
Jules
Besides Yorkshire is not just one county, if you will group together

The main portion of Kansas City has always been in Missouri. It started out in Missouri and then sprawled acrosss the state line.

Yeah, the biggest part of KC is in Missouri (the biggest city in Missouri, too ).
Hypatia, we used to go to Table Rock Lake every year for vacation. Caught my very first fish down there. Silver Dollar City was always there (for me), and we went to see the Shepard of the Hills show most years, too. The main strip through town was 3-lane, one in each direction and a turn lane, and the last year we went (probably '79 or '80) the traffic was so terrible we spent most of our time there in gridlock. I'm sure it's beautiful at Christmas, but I'll take your word for it
I've heard KC is beautiful at Christmas, too. I *might* go see that one day.
St Louis isn't what it used to be at Christmas, though. Any prospective Christmastime visitors would be better served going to Branson or KC. (Any other time of year, St Louis is your ticket . Not that I'm biased or anything )
Texas will have another one soon A2773244
Nice entry broe
There was a strong emphasis on KC jazz in this piece I heard on NPR last weekend http://www.npr.org/features/feature.php?wfId=3863502 Anything in there you can use?
