I am trying very hard to learn German (without classroom
study.) It will be a slow process I'm sure, but with
some help from a German speaking friend I may be able to
discover how to use words in a sentence. The "order" of
words in a sentence are so different from the English
language. I guess that must come with practice.

Are you in the UK? If so, the BBC does many courses, which (and I'm not crawling 'cos it's their site!!) you can use at the computer or away. If this isn't an option, get a text book, tell us which you choose, and I'm sure somebody will help. I will, for one!!
