I googled for 'washing clothes using washing-up liquid (in Swedish) and came across this beautifully (if you understand Scandinavian) translated page :

Note point 3 especially. I'll try and translate it word for word into an equally poor translation in English.

'3. Crash clothes object in the sink or bucket of water and washing-up liquid. Carefully rub clothes against one self or a wash onboard.'
