Have put my faith in AVG Free and Zonealarm for many, many years. I disliked Norton for its sheer invasion of your system and the difficulty getting rid of it. (I hope the latter is a thing of the past)
Happy Birthday G7!

I finish work until the 3rd in 8 minutes time! Yay! If I'm not on before, merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
<BB<
*matina brings out a coconut cake along with Christmas themed paper plates and napkins and a pile of plastic sporks*
*matina and chloe then enter the service lift and go downstairs for the CLI bot xmas party*
I just passed my Economics test! I scored higher than I did on the pre-test! (This is a little backwards for me.)
Congratulations!
Here's another slam to the quality of news reporting in the US, where the front pages on CNN and the BBC are compared:

*Runes rolls in late as usual and spends a while admiring the tree, before hanging his own ornament. It is a pair of hollow glass spheres, hung together. They are filled with pale swirling fog, through which images sometimes flash. One shows you sleek plaited hair, the swish of skirts, leather armour, bare feet, a corset. The other holds a green hat, a large warm hand, roller skates, a first aid kit, a pile of duvets.*
Spending this Christmas at home this year, instead of visiting my parents. Mum keeps trying to talk me into "coming home" because she thinks I'll be lonely. I'm looking forward to eating as much as I want for the first time and not being stressed and scared by family. Can't tell her that, though; the last thing she wants to hear is that not visiting her is a relief. I probably will be lonely. But I don't want to see my family, and my lovelies are both visiting theirs, so I'd rather be home than anywhere else.

Oh, and happy birthday, Gw7en!
I always say that I swear by ClamWin Antivirus, on the basis that I've never had to swear *at* it instead. Mind you, I'm spending enough effort on not getting them in the first place that it's largely not seeing a whole lot of use.
SpaceCadette, I'll keep an eye out for the Ricola Green Tea and ec ... eckin ... ee ecky thump ... that stuff.
Night all.
Thanks for the security suite advice! Got one question more: will I need to uninstall Norton for the MSE to work, or can I just remove it's default setting? SO many things won't uninstall completely, or worse yet, uninstall and take shared bits of other programs with them. Uninstalling makes me nervous...
RE the forms of address for married folk... When I got married in the early seventies, I *tried* to keep my maiden name...we got so much mail for "Mr SC" that I gave up, and took his name instead (gotta remember though, it still reeked of the smoke from burning bras back then, and lots of people didn't like this 'keeping your maiden name' stuff). Most mail doesn't address the honorifics anymore, anyway -- haven't gotten any mail recently with Ms/Mrs/Miss, just First Name SC.

Last train ride to work this year.
I'd uninstall - and I'd use the Revo Uninstaller (the free version) to do the deed. Just run it in standard settings and clear all the stuff it finds in the post-Norton Uninstaller steps
But your last name's not hard, Ag... Admittedly, like I said Elsewhere, had the card been signed Real Name instead of Agapanthus, it would've taken me awhile, because you don't *look* like an "Ag's Real Name" (no, I don't know what an ARN should look like, but that's beside the point--Ag doesn't look like an ARN to me). Then again, my stepdad's last name was Siegfried, which I had to learn to spell at the same time I was learning to spell *my* maiden name, and correcting people on both (Mom got remarried a month before my third birthday). I cannot believe how many people managed to misspell "Hopper". One O, two Ps. Not "Hooper"! Spell check even recognizes Hopper (Hooper too, which I didn't know before now...) I think less people misspell Pawloski, actually, usually by adding a W or moving it around--and Tom's dad randomly changes how he spells it on his paintings and whatnot If I'm sending a card and I know that it's going to a house with married folks but I only know half the couple, I only send it to the person I know the name of--if I don't know the other's name, they won't know who I am, either, because I'm just an internet weirdo and probably an ax-murderer (I remember that when I went to Pennsylvania for that meet back in 2002, we all agreed we were ax-murderers )
I had something else I was going to talk about here, but I seem to have focussed on the name thing and completely lost what I was actually going to say That plus the babbling on and on tells me I must be tired...

My real surname's very hard for the British, I think, as it's 'ethnic', and therefore the sworn enemy of the British Favourite Vowel, the Schwa. No one pronounces my name correctly, some people turn the K into a C, the middle consonant gets doubled at random, and almost no one remembers that the last consonant SHOULD be doubled. I was once told by a 'well-meaning', eh, friend? that she wasn't going to call me by my surname anymore, she was going to call me by Scrumph's, because mine was too difficult to remember and I 'kept' correcting her when she misspelt/pronounced it. I had corrected her ONCE, because she ASKED how it was spelled and pronounced. Do we have an <eyeroll> smiley?
Not at you, just demonstrating

Dear me, Ag, I only just remembered your surname. being German, it never occurred to me that people could have trouble pronouncing it. - Is it pronounced the way it is spelled?

Bel - it's pronounced in the German manner, EXACTLY as it is spelt. Whereas yer average Brit sees the 'au' vowel combination and has a brain-spasm and insists that it's pronounced 'or', not 'ah-ooh'. Endless conversations: What's your name? 'Agaupanthusmann' (as it were). How do you spell that? A G A U P A N T H U S M A N N. Ohhh! Argorpenthusmin! GAH.
It being the first day off for the Seasonal Jollities, and it being the day of washing-up and laundry and present-wrapping and last-minute runs to the shops, I have a high temperature and a sore throat. Oh, thank you so VERY much, Universe. Much appreciated.
On a much much much more serious note, I am very worried about the Pacific Rim. Typhoons and floods and earthquakes, it's terrifying and the deathtoll is just heart-breaking.
