I think this is a little known early castle, I think built around 1070, the Mott has disappeared but the ring ditch or moat is visible. This is likely to have been developed into a manor of the type known as a moat house. I would like a second opinion the air photo is superb. Please comment if the links fail please contact me.
Bob...
Bob, the Motte seems to be the Irish see, and the Bailey, the Galloway coast... but being a left-footer, on a MMac, do not be despirited.. We often can't get visuals..
Good luck..

Thh lnks on here appear to work
Bob, is it me? Your links either drop me in the Irish sea off Barrow, or in the North Sea.
Icy
Hi Icy

The link(s) I posted here seem to work
Manual instructions Find Stafford take the A518 south west.
Find where the M6 crosses the A518 and approx 1.5 miles down the A518 You will see a ring of trees north of the road (Bury Ring).
1.8 miles due south of the ring is the interesting feature accessed by Furlong Lane.
Any good
Bob...
Well, the OS map just marks it as an ancient Moat.

Maybe we should ask Time Team to dig it up!
Well the lack of feaures and the position, could lead to the speculation tha it could even be a henge
Found it, Bob:

Well done Icy it loks a lot older than the web site would suggest though.
So how did you spot this one, Bob - just cruising around on Google Earth?
It was the wrong shape for the landscape, it did not fit at all, I was looking for something else at the time.
