(Don't mind me, just pretend I'm not here)

Thanks - I see they have teardrops but with f-holes, and a mandola.
Also, thanks for the distinction between wider and narrower necks. In fact, now that I think of it, the gibson was much easier to play the g-chord that uses all the fingers and is a killer for a beginner - but on the other hand didn't feel particularly quick. Well, I'll stick with a narrower neck then and keep practicing
I've been diligent about keeping the mandolin-related new years resolution and so for my birthday, I decided to get a 'real' mandolin and found one that has been well used and well cared for, and well made too. Originally made in Montana, it's owner shipped it from Spokane on May 3 and it arrived on Monday. It's a delight to play - here it is:

Regarding the resolution to be as inane as possible - the photo will reveal that I have kept that one too.
That's a nice looking mandolin. Very American.
That's a fine looking man-in-the-mirror. Very kissable
I'm having a great time with the mandolin still.
I poke around in the Mandolin Cafe for interesting things and found a link to this - I'll never be able to play it myself though. It's a guy playing Hendrix - unbelievable.

What a lovely looking thing that is, lovely mirror too. It's the curves & the "f" holes that get to me.... Very smooth indeed.

Fancy meeting you here - I was just about to post another link to a song - one that I am actually making some headway with. It's a gorgeous arrangement of 'whiskey before breakfast'

I've managed to work through the first (umm...)4 bars. My new year's resolution was to learn music, but I've put that aside for the moment to learn this one by ear.

Oooh; it's lovely! Downloaded it
*sigh* I miss my mandy, but at least she went to a good home & i still have my bass. You'd have loved a street concert i went to a couple of weeks back, band called "les Crogs", Celtic, mélange of Irish, Scottish & traditional Breton music, great stuff, banjos, mandy's, violins, bodhrans etc; they got everyone up & dancing traditional Breton dances.

(It's a very new site, i think i'm their first visitor, it's all in French of course, but somehow i suspect you can hear stuff if you press the right buttons! )
By the way, is it OK if i add you to my fiends list? I think that's only right, since i am Foster Mum to your !

That was fun, I found 'Je descends dans mon jardin'
It says that I am also the first visitor - either every visitor is special, or the counter may not be working.
'is it OK if i add you to my fiends list?'
I'd be honored to be added to your fiends list
I'll add you to mine as well.

added!
Aww, maybe they are just really nice folks who like to make us all feel special! (Actually, I've known them for years & they are indeed nice people...but probably far more interested in playing music than creating websites! )

I made some adjustments to my mandolin, then I cleaned it for good measure - but I probably shouldn't have. Now it's shrunk.

However, the good news is now I can hit all the frets at once.
