As a little manual for the mainstream,
I found the piece of writing to
be excellent.
Just a few pointers : there are no
specific requirements for a Satanist
to either believe in, or deny the
existence of God/Satan...
Also; Satan is more of a patron
than a mascot. "Mascot" conjures up
strange sporting images...
Just a few notes :

*Gavin Baddley's "Lucifer Rising"
documents the history of, and present
state of Satanism - VERY good book!
*Dr Lavey was heavily involved in
the making of Roman Polanski's
"Rosemary's Baby" - and yes, those
devil eyes ARE his...
*It's not a requirement of Satanism to
wear black, or be into heavy metal, or
a Facist - although because of their
obtrusive presence in society they do feature.
And I am a Satanist  and very nice

All of those are good bits of trivia! I had a lot of things I wanted to add, but I was caught between illuminating EVERYTHING and being a bore, or just trying to get the basic misunderstandings out of the way. I own all of LaVey's books, myself, though I have yet to find the biography written by Blanche Barton.
I think the dressing in black thing is just a phase most outsiders go through. For some reason, probably media related, it just stands out as a universal symbol of rebelion. I think, after one grows a little and matures into their own being more, they stop trying to rebel against the outside forces and start concentrating on their own gifts. And THAT's where the REALY power lies.
since i didnt get an answer to my question,hence my anger,i will ask it again, what practices etc do you have to do to be a satanist or whatever and do you have rituals to do or initiation rituals etc?? im just curious thats all, anyway my theory about the devil is if you spell his name backwards it spells lived and thats what he did but he did sin no one has the right to do the bad things that they want to do.. like steal or murder rape etc but we do have the right to the good things we want to do and God in my opinion is the God of good things

im not into satanism i am against the evil devil i dont care if there is a good god or not cause i am a good person regardless, i believe in the afterlife i believe we go on after death thanks to watching john edward in action on living tv, i dont have a religion really because you dont need one to believe in the afterife which does exist,my religion is life and nature,i listen to life so that i dont disappoint it by being ignoramus,i listen to what its trying to tell me even through my dreams,i love what it throws at me to test me or to learn thus making me better in mind heart body and soul,i love life i am so happy proud thankful and most of all humble to be a part of it not just because i was almost aborted but because of life being what it is,as for nature well what can i say except im pagan in my worship and love of it,and it is life that goes on after death its so powerful a thing,this had made me slow down my pace so i can see things and take it all in becoming wise in new ways through watching a volcano errupt or a tornado etc, nature=perfect yet its self destructive like us humans though life isnt self destructive it wouldnt make a perfect role model if it was,thats all its simple i believe in nature and life and that we go on,god and devil may not exist,but the afterlife does indeed,john edwards given me that proof,so anyway out of curiousity what do you have to do to be a satanist do you do rituals do you have initiation rituals daily practices what????
Apologies for the time taken to reply; Ive been away from the site for a while.
First of all, what does it *take* to be a Satanist? Its common knowledge that LaVey regarded most Satanists to be born...not made. So from my perspective its a tricky - if not a little odd - question to answer. Im never good at it. I would say it takes a certain deviance from society and people : whether in thought, dress, lifestyle, occupation, tastes...and Im being specific. Not minority groups, but true individuals.
Strong character, a tendency to be anti-social/reclusive...argh! This is a hard one. Im not attempting to be a representative of the Church of Satan...at least not yet! I suppose a Satanist is one who is one on their own...y'know the weird person at the end of your street in the spoooooky house. Hope thats clear enough!
Secondly the ritual side of it is not really an important feature in true Satanism...more theatrics, or a chance to dress up. The Church f Satan has always been the organisation of non-joiners. There arent exactly Sunday summer outings, or Church Fetes. And most Satanists dont need rituals, and I happen to be one of them. Like in the C of E, I always found rituals slightly silly and unsettling.
The comment about the *evil devil* kind of confused me...as a pagan, surely you dont believe in one? And I wouldnt really consider Satan evil...he enlightened man...surely thats the greatest gift anyone could bestow on us?
And may I ask just who this *John Edward* is? Mysterious...
Hope I havent been too unclear...Im not immensely clear when I speak to outsiders on Satanism...

dont know if god exists or the devil exists and dont care if they do or dont,i believe the afterlife exists though-don't ask me why I don't want to go into my life details but it does exist,and the aftrelife is all i care about i'm not bothered whether god or the devil are here too or not,i dont know what gods like or if he exists but hes suppossedly good if hes here and the devil is in hell and hell is suppossed to be where all the evil people like murderers n rapists and all them folk go as punishment i think that any one who is evil deserves to go to an evil place in the afterlife and that people who are not evil desreve to be in a good place in the afterlife seperated from evil.the only way people find out about it all is when they are dead and cross over to the afterlife as ive said before the afterlife is all i want,my mum has been given a year to live n i hope when she joins the spirits she will come back n visit me though she may not it dont matter i like to think i will see her again.
have you ever known an enigma person--no? well you are speaking to one mate,i am an enigma-(a mystery,puzzling person or thing), too complex for people to understand i think ,I'm very wise,very strong and an individual I am unique not mentally like any other woman you will ever meet on this planet or anywhere else,(everyone who knows me thinks that including the strangersi have only spoken to for a little bit) sometimes i feel like im three different women rolled into one,the easiest way to discribe myself is by saying im an enigma, personality wise im everything,my interests are vast and growing, im adventurous and an adventure for people trying to get to know me thing is..they never get to know me,i am always a mystery i am always an enigma and people like my dont come by very often but we are not always appreciated and sometimes we are over looked--i think its time people started appreciatingmy kind while enigmas are still produced,i have a powerful mind and powerful inner strength and determination,i am me n proud to be me,i take no s**t,and give no s**t n i detest ignorant people,but then unlike me-people cant understand everything n so i have to accept that.
How anyone can talk about believing in the afterlife because of John Edwards, and then talk about hating ignorant people, is beyond me.

All I see is basic Judeo-Christian belief system coming through here...no other consideration, and a heck of a defensive attitude. That to me is ignorance.
Question : WHAT IS EVIL? WHAT IS GOOD?
That is, if we are still attempting to hold a logical conversation here, rather than indulging in your attention/psychological problems...?
Im a Satanist because Im an intelligent individual. I have no interest in people who have warped ignorance and post numerous verging-on-illiterate, frankly insulting messages...read some books before you contribute to such an engaging message forum...

Decent show. Very convincing Spirit Medium. Don't necessarily discount his ability, because, as I said, he's pretty convincing.
If he's a con-artist, he's one of the greats. But I would call it lunacy to base your belief in an afterlife on his show! LOL
It comes on Sci-Fi, and is sindicated on other stations.
OH! I've just remembered who he is. Complete fraud...and anyone who considers him to be a great mind deserves to be heckled at great extremes...not convincing at all. (If you ever come across an individual called Derek Acorah however...now he's an interesting man indeed.( I dislike the day-time carnival that is this whole Spirit Revolution...bleh. There's great value in what makes a good show and leaves our little white middle class housewives happy, and true psychic ability...both inevitably separated, because no one ever likes to be told the truth...check out the film "The seven faces of Dr. Lao"...
Pah! John Edwards. Thats made me re-evaluate the whole conversation. Not to be dismissive of anothers views, but honestly, when the only knowledge of exterior belief systems (as opposed to Christianity) comes from day time talk shows, there's something remarkably frightening and amusing about it all.

Well I appreciate good cheap entertainment. It usually signifies that anyone stupid enought to watch it probably doesnt have the motivation to move from their couch to reproduce with anyone but their close-knit community. Therefore in about 2 generations time their genes will turn in on themselves and hopefully their heads will explode...
Well, according to LaVey's 'The Satanic Bible' it's said that 'black robes are worn by the male participants. The robes may be cowled or
hooded, and if desired may cover the face'. But obviously, this is only a device used in a Satanic ritual. 'Black is chosen for the attire in the ritual chamber because it is symbolic of the Powers of Darkness'.
But, as of today I'm not a satanist, so I'm really not sure of these things. I wrote them here in accordance with the Satanic Bible, and I haven't read the entire book yet.
Please, do correct me if I'm wrong. But before that; do satanists wear "regular" clothing outside these rituals. If they ever ritualize.
Well, what do you think? Do you think Satanists aren't the average person on the street?
