Entry: The Metronome - A87740454 Author: h5ringer (Scout, Sub-Editor) - The Maestro Cat - U3386111
Having completed an Entry on the tuning-fork, an Entry on the metronome seemed only a small step away.

I knew what a metronome is, but I never knew how to use it (I never possessed one).
Could you split up this sentence:
Western music notation – symbols on a stave, including notes, rests, time and key signatures – is a proportional system, that is to say how long each type of note or rest - minims, crochets, quavers etc - lasts relative to the other types is well-defined, but their absolute time duration is completely undefined.
It's a bit convoluted and hard to understand (at least for me).
Then I'm not sure about this:
Maelzel on the other hand became very rich and lived until 1838, when the boat on which he and one of his Panharmonicons (there were several) was travelling, from Havana, Cuba to Philadelphia USA, sank and he drowned.
Shouldn't it be 'were' travelling, seeing as you're talking about two units? Otherwise maybe write : he was travelling with one of his Panharmonicons...
According to Sir Charles Mackerras:
"Unfortunately there were misunderstanding on the part of both Beethoven and his nephew [who frequently wrote down music dictated by Beethoven] as to whether one was supposed to read the top or the bottom of the little weight on the metronome."
Hi Bel. Thanks for reading
I've split that mess up into 3 sentences.
was --> were. That's what happens when you add things into an existing sentence. Good spot <--enjoy

Ahh, - my favourite beverage. Thanks.
This one appears to have stopped. Any reason or should I just remove it?

Ooh it's excellent, I can't see any reason to remove it!

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
Well done!

Oh dear - who's editing this? I have been meaning to read it, and have only just got round to it. It got picked rather quickly.
If the editor reads this, I would like to say:
Mention is made of three inventors <<Joseph Sauveur (1711), Enbrayg (1732) and Gabory (1771)>> Can I ask where these people were based? Enbrayg is a very unusual name. Gabory COULD be Hungarian, and Sauveur COULD be French (or Belgian or Swiss) so it would be nice to see where people were working on the problem.
I love the bit <<Surprisingly, the metronome is not well represented in the canon of music compositions>>
And, finally, perhaps under "modern metronomes" you could mention that very serviceable apps are available for mobile phones which are just as good as an electronic metronome, and which have the added advantage that they can be used with earphones so only the player heards that annoying "click - click - click". Sony mobile phones even have them built in. I haven't found any other make that does.
Sorry I've missed the boat here - maybe the subeditor will mosey along and read this post.
Oh - and, of course Well Done h5ringer. Sorry, I should have said.
Keep up the good work!
Joseph Sauveur (1652-1716): mathematician, French, member of l'Académie Royale des Sciences
