Finally, after much debate, we decided to get a digital recorder instead of diving in a studio. Now we can do our own recordings, although they will be of lesser quality than those done in a studio, but they'll be a whole lot cheaper.
Yesterday the thing arrived. Can't wait to try it out. It's a Fostex MR8HD. Anyone used this thing before? It seems to be quite user-friendly, or idiot-proof as I like to call it So it should work out perfectly for SC

I've got an old Fostex tape-based 4-track recorder, but I doubt that my experiences with that will be relevant to your new toy!

Bwah, you never know. Some tips on recording in general are always welcome. The idea we have is to e.g. route the drums (with a few overhead mic's and one for bass drum and one for hi-hatt) trought our mixer and inputting that signal on the recorder, on one track. Bass and rythm guitar can be recorder at the same time on track 2 and 3 (for instance). Afterwards, overdubbing the vocals and the lead guitar.
Don't know if it will work, though. Especially the drums, getting it to sound good through our mixer. Our 'rehearsal den' is the garage at my parents home, so we have a lot of -let's call it- natural reverb, if you know what I mean. It's gonna be hard to make sure that each mic doesn't pick to much surrounding noise. I think the overheads for the drum will be a problem, in that regard. There will be guitar going through those as well, I'm afraid.
