Entry: How to conduct a skywatch - a guide for ufology - A3860480 Author: TallTony - U537257
I'd like to submit my second submission for entry to the guide. All comments appreciated. Cheers
Hi!
I don't have time to nitpick right now (well, yes I do, I just don't feel like it) but there are some grammar things and typos you might want to look at.
I'm glad that there are some people interested in UFOs that are concerned with facts! It's only the nuts that seem to get on TV.

Hi Tony
I enjoyed reading your Entry. Skywatching reminded me of fishing, and fishermen's claims, they don't go fishing to catch fish, more to relax and also the stories of the 'one that got away'
I'd be interested to know a couple more things that are commonly mistaken for UFOs.
A link for a UFO or astronomical organisation would be useful.
Is there a minimum binoculars strengh you'd recommend? Expensive needed mean strongest.

Hi Toney!
Nice work again - but seeing as it's your second entry, you must be ready for a little list of corrections
Just a couple of typoos:
>Land owners - Landowners
>Equipment to bring. - no full stop in subheaders
>One idea would be bring - would be to bring
>are a definite cause to many a - cause of
>will frequently aid the viewer to identify - aid the viewer in indentifying OR help the viewer to identify
>Some people bring with them telescopes - bring telescopes with them
>photographing the night time sky - the night sky
>the set will be useful for sky watches - you've been using 'skywatches' as one word right through to this point
>a local UFO and astronomical - UFO or astronomical
In terms of your headers, it would be better if you removed the first header (one is put in at the top anyway) and the first subheader (What is a skywatch?) - or in the latter case put an introduction above it. The rest of your subheaders should be full headers.
I don't know if there's any way of you breaking up the middle section at all, it seems very long but maybe there isn't a lot you can do about this!
Good job again and an interesting subject

Thanks guys for your help. Typos...there are few of them...thanks for pointing these out, I shall amend them asap. Binocular strength...I'll add in a note about this. Long middle - yes it is, I'll find a way of breaking this down. Nice one again, always rely on you all for your honesty.

Ok guys, I've done the amendments, ufo group link and balanced the body length. The binocular strength and some extra notes will be done shortly. Cheers
Welcome back, TallTony - another great entry here. I'll be keeping an eye out for all kinds of stuff now. The only time I've ever seen anything that had me even removely suspecting it was something odd was a few years ago when some bright sparks decided to launch a hot air balloon that was silver and disc-like. Pah! Had me going for a few minutes though.

Just a few minor GuideML points you might like to do while your waiting, it will save the Sub-editor a little work.
In the Headers, the first letter of main words should be in Caps.
The <B></B>s in the Headers are not used in and need to be deleted.
The "<P ALIGN="LEFT">"s are not needed, just <P> is the norm.
The amendments and additions look fine IMO

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

Hi S, Thanks for going over my submission and also for additional ref links, I like most of them.
However, I would be very grateful if you removed one of the links as I don't think it's suitable for my article. I'm referring to 'Anoraks - They're People Too.' You may find this a strange suggestion to make.
Firstly, fun and 'taking the Michael' aside, my submission is to inform readers about an activity that's fun to do and educational. Like any activity, it will always attract the 'geek' element, however, in the main, skywatches are conducted by astronomers, police, met officers, photographers and artists, we're not geeks. My article is about skywatches and I would be grateful if I am allowed to keep it objective.
Secondly, the 'Anoraks - They're People Too' is not really a decent entry. It's too short and it's aim is unclear. It seems to be about few people who are unable to normally socially engage with people either through mental illness or abuse or do not conform to what most of us call 'normal' behaviour. Deviancy is not normally equated with being wrong.
Ok, I know I'm going way OTT on this but I'm trying to make a point. The Hitchikers is meant to be educational and fun, it's meant to offer debate and share opinion, but it's not meant to offend anyone, plus my article is not about geeks, that is only a subjective perspective which is not offered by the author.
Thanks TT

Hi Tony,
first of all, it's not that unusual that after the subbing is done, one or the other point needs a bit of discussion. IMO, there's no point in defending every single change that was made during subbing, so don't worry.
Links to other entries are one of the central parts in the Edited Guide, and while it's not like 'the more the better' I try to find a fair number of suitable entries to link to. Sometimes it's got to be more 'sensible' (think of an article on bereavement, for instance), but most of the time it is permissible to add a bit of humour by linking to a slightly off-topic entry. I remember adding a link to 'how to cook a duck' to an entry about an endangered duck species; not politically correct, I know, but...
Regarding the anorak link, I'm a bit unsure what to do with it. There are now sufficient other links, so it wouldn't do any harm if one was missing. On the other hand, I personally think that it would add to your entry. The anorak entry (IMO one of the better entries in the EG) is not primarily derogatory about a group of people but tries to explain the term in a self-ironic way; linking to it adds a little humour but wouldn't necessarily make fun of people who skywatch. Skywatching is not the world's most serious activity but is (among other things) supposed to be a fun event, as you said in your entry.
So what now? If it was just me, I'd rather leave the link in. However, you are the author, and I could take it out if you're really uncomfortable with it.
