I have a cousin in Barrow, Alaska. He is a physician's assistant, who also works in search & rescue. He was one of the divers who searched for victims of one of the crashed jetliners off the coast of New York, that was suspected of being a terrorist act. Great guy, I'd happily introduce any of my single young friends to him.
He fell and sprained his right wrist a few days ago. But then his whole left side began to swell. So, last night I get a call--he's being flown to Anchorage for emergency medical care. There is a condition that can result from injury, where the muscle starts to break down. The increased protein in the blood puts extra strain on the kidneys, and can cause failure. It looks like that's what happened. But, fortunately, it was caught early and he's in really good health. So, we hope that with a few rounds of dialysis (to give his kidneys a break), he'll be just fine.
So, we can all relax, at least unless there is worse news ahead. I'm searching for a really funny gift to send him.
Does anyone know what ever happened to "Adam & Eve" or other novelty catalogs? Are there good websites? I'm at a bit of a loss... somehow magic tricks and canned farts just don't seem quite right.
