The day will be etched in my memory as the day I realised I was living in the world of the sci-fi books I read as a child. A world I thought I would never see.
CCTV, erosion of freedom of speech, subjugation of rights, guilty until proven innocent... all these things came on so slowly over the last few decades that we can be forgiven for blythely going along with it. The 'terrorist threat' will make us bow our heads meekly and accept the protection of the One True Government who love us and only seek our best interests in defending us from 'terrorists' and 'copyright infringers', who mean us harm. The law eroding our freedoms is for our protection. We know not what we do.
Hey Sus,
Not sure that I am so forgiving about the 'blythely going along with it' but here speaks one who wouldn't even let her child be fingerprinted for a library card. Yes, yes I understand the tech, thank you for the reassurance that this can't be used in a bad way but since when did we start teaching our children that it is ok to be handing out their finger prints for convenience and the sake of cost cutting.
Anyway, I just came over to say hi and and I will reply to your email
or a <creamtea>?
