What the subject line said. Seems to be happening more and more that the connection times out. Doesn't happen on other sites, so I don't THINK it's me.
I stared at a blank white screen for 5 seconds waiting for this thread to materialise on the screen. You're right - it's happening more and more.
It has been slow for some time now, with the occassional "server too busy" error page coming up.
I don't think it can be associated with the AskH2g2 community as the thread activity seems quite low. Maybe it has something to do with the millions of hits the guide has every few days that those that know tell us about.

We're aware that we occasionally suffer from load issues due to a build up in the cache. We're working on ways to solve this, including a new framework that we're currently beta testing
We apologise for the inconvenience.
Cheers for letting us know though

Hey Gyp, dig the slowness! - Donovan
Timing out a couple of times a day. Getting logged out a couple of times a week. And all the top link buttons are lost under the header bar on convo pages. There's a thin orange line and the Alt Text tells me they are under there somewhere but the conversation frames in Alabaster have crowded them up under the bar.

With respect, Z, that doesn't explain what's changed to cause the recent difficulties. Has someone been tinkering with the live configuration? And if so can they please untinker it to the point at which it worked perfectly, a week or so ago.
Has anyone else got a BBC server busy page recently? Or did I miss that email?

BBC server busy page at least half a dozen times a day.
Only started happening a few days ago.
I thought we left Auntie B on the curb with her knitting, a cheese, onion and pickle sandwich and a note pinned to her sleeve?
We're the onion repeating on her.

Z, why is it worse first thing in the morning?! I tweeted on 6th March, and that was about the third day I couldn't get in in the morning, or I'd have to go and put the kettle on while I waited for pages to open. It seemed fine during the day, although today has been awful.
We're using the same system as the BBC, even though we're no longer attached to them. Maybe the two systems are having sympathy pains? Or maybe they're nervously anticipating the Ides of march?

The BBC 'sever too busy' is in the complied code.
At the moment I think the regular cache clear is done first thing in the morning...
I seem to recall Pastey saying it's done about 7.30am and again about 9pm.

3:30 PM and 5:00 AM for me, that explains a lot!

Yep, those times tie in. I do something else when it strikes.
Ironically, I got the following message whilst trying to reply here:
Fehler: Netzwerk-Zeitüberschreitung Der Server unter h2g2.com braucht zu lange, um eine Antwort zu senden.
Er - translation: Timeout - the h2g2 server is taking to long to answer.
I was going to ask Rod - is there anything to do outside h2g2? But there's not much point now!
