Just watched Juno on More4 and, for all its flaws (hipster soundtrack, pretentious dialogue) it's a great film and really touching. I know Michael Cera plays the same character in everything he's in, and it's basically himself, but he seems a nice guy so it works.
It also has Alison Janney in it and she makes everything wonderful.
I just watched Submarine while I was doing the ironing. Not much happens, but it's still quite gripping; it's like a sort of serious Adrian Mole. It is classified as a comedy but there was absolutely nothing funny, which didn't detract from it at all.
Had fun watching the extras, too. DVD's really are such a invention.

Just got back from The Hunger Games and as Sho says wow, just wow. For my money Dark Knight Rises and the Hobbit are going to have to work hard to unseat it as my favourite film of the year.
It was very powerful and very affecting: at times the emotions on screen were palpable - I found myself in tears at a few points and films generally don't affect me like that. It was a long film and yet they got so much in there so it felt even longer: the world they built was very well-realised.
Jennifer Lawrence has to be singled out: she put in an exceptional performance that really elevated the film. The music/sound editing was also superb - very quiet most of the time (which caused the audience to be very quiet - you could have heard a pin drop) with occasional bursts of subtle, affecting music.
I enjoyed that a *lot* and I'm off to buy the books on Monday.
Tintin (yes I know I'm way behind everybody else). Wow. Absolutely brilliant. One very happy set of Tintin fans here.

Passport to Pimlico
Good stuff. It strikes me that the current generation might be a bit bemused about ration books though.
The other noticeable thing is the amount of bombing damage evident in the streets of London, something that's even more apparent in The Lavender Hill Mob, filmed 2 years later in 1951. In that film the bombed-out streets of London contrast starkly with the pristine streets of Paris. And whilst rationing ended in Britain (& Pimlico) in 1954, it ended in 1947 in France.

The Prophet. It's a French mafia film with Corciscan and Arab gangs trying to control a prison and their operations outside. It was very intelligent and bloody. The utterly foul language was slightly more shocking in the subtitles than when used on screen.
I am currently cursed to watch films in which somebody is dying of cancer. This was no exception.
I watched The Godfather the other day. Whilst I realise the Jury is hardly out on it, I had forgotten just quite how extraordinarily good it was.

Rango
I think my wife and I laughed more than the kids so it probably missed its market. OK as a family film though.
I am currently reading The Hunger Games and I hope to have it finished before I see the film,
Today we saw "We Bought a Zoo" which was a film about grief, love and faith (not in a religious sense). We enjoyed it and Matt Damon is in every scene, with absolutely no complaints from me
Animal lovers will adore this film, but do take a hanky

I stopped watching both The Prophet and Rango as I felt zero connection or interest in the characters.
The Prophet: who cares about someone in prison being manipulated by other people in prison - all of who are just not very nice people. (Rheotorical comment.)
Rango: Another 'finding yourself' film in which I didn't laugh once, didn't get engaged with the story and really couldn't be bothered whether they got their water or not so stopped watching.

I take your point about The Prophet however I found the main character interesting, he couldn't read and seemed confused at the beginning. He didn't want to whack the first guy and was internalling wrestling with the issues before being threatened.
Pirates, Easter treat for the kids.
Its no Wallace and Grommit.

Just got back from Cabin in the Woods. Really can't say too much without spoiling it and it's a film that would be killed by spoilers. It was a Who's Who of the Whedonverse which is what made me interested. Hard to judge, but I think I enjoyed it in the end
Very well written with visuals that, at times, reminded me of Pan's Labyrinth/Hellboy and there's no higher praise than that.
Is the Pirates film as funny as Shaun the Sheep's boat episode?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKj2kgMLxl4
I do think Shaun the Sheep is the funniest thing that Aardman do. The number of jokes that they cram into the tiny space of each episode is quite amazing.
Geggs
Brilliant - 90 minutes of inappropriate laughter, some genuinely unexpected twists and turns, a great cast, sharp script and a non-hollywood ending. Who could ask for more. (oh, and absolutely no hence of a sequel!).
Do not read any reviews or even watch the trailer for this film if you can possibly avoid it. Just go.
9/10
Superb - I have my credit card out and the lady at the booking hotline is on hold. What film should I ask for?
Clue's in the title. Hope you enjoy it. The whole cinema was laughing and simultaneously surprised at what they were laughing AT....

Braindead. Sick sick stuff. And sooo funny
Still, had to interrupt after about half of it on the first night because I couldn't bear it anymore. Watched the other half three days later. Now I've seen everything.
I love Braindead! Got to watch it eating a bowl of custard .
We saw Cabin in the woods last weekend too, really enjoyed it.
