It was a brief description my the involvement of my wife and self in that scandalous Association, the fact that we are the publiishers of its monthly newsletter, and the common h2g2'ish oblique way of spelling out the e-mail address of the newsletter should anyone be interested in seeing snippets of the 'Home of the AIr Force' town. Really naughty stuffs, ya know. The first report from the zapping was to do with advertising for a 'for-profit' agency, but has changed to being 'off-topic'.
The title notwithstanding, the actual topic of this thread is Canadian politics and government, with bits and pieces of current events and cultural practices thrown in. I think the thread adheres to that topic pretty well for the most part. Even the posts about coffee and food and other libations fit well into the cultural category.

When cl zoomer and I started the thread years ago it was very very much and emphatically intended to be a place first of all where Canadians could find each other and then to talk about whatever might interest them or might be thought to interest other Canadians. Many charities have been touted here, political candidates and parties, restaurants, sausage makers, coffee roasters, breweries ...
Nick and I have not always seen eye to eye by any means, but I would very much like to do whatever I can - if there's anything - to get his plug for the association back up. If it is as he says a benefit to veteran Air Force members, then it is most emphatically *on* topic.
I'd very much like to see it reposted. And, if it was yikesed by any regular here who might reach me by email, I'd appreciate a brief note telling me their side so I can stop acting like an ass if that's what I'm doing.

The premise of the AFAC (previously the RCAFA, and perhaps again soon) is as follows:
"The Air Force Association of Canada (AFAC) is a not-for-profit community service organization of Canadian air force veterans and aviation enthusiasts. The AFAC's main goals are to advocate for a well-equipped, professional air force for Canada; interest Canadians in Canadian aerospace issues; and to make Canadians more aware of Canada's air force history. The association is also active in advocating for veterans rights and with community service, aviation heritage and youth projects, especially those supporting the Royal Canadian Air Cadets."
Ours provides specific support for the Air Cadets (which are a big activity in Trenton) as well as various functions and affairs put on by The National Air Force Museum (which also resides here) as well as participating in nearly every parade and community event.
Full/regular membership is open to anyone who has served in our air element as well as such folks of other memberships of the Commonwealth and allies. Associate/non-voting membership is open to the immediate families of the first sort of people.
I briefly describe it as a Legion but for Air folks only ...

Most folks know that my previous names here were 'RevNick'. An e-mail to such a name, at a same-named domain in Canada would find me, and return a copy of the September edition of the TalePipe, our monthly newsletter

Nick,
Stop asking for people's email addresses on this site. If users are interested in the Association or the newsletter, they can approach the Association directly themselves.
We absolutely do not tolerate users asking for/collecting other users' email addresses, no matter what reasons are given for doing so.
In the BBC House Rules - and this is a message to everybody - we state:
"Please do not reveal any personal information about yourself or others as it might inadvertently put you or someone else at risk" http://www.bbc.co.uk/messageboards/faq/house_rules_info.shtml#personal
Nick, you are also sailing a bit too close to the wind as far as advertising is concerned. Please read here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/messageboards/...aq/house_rules_info.shtml#advertise
Please abide by the House Rules at all times.

Another 'tradition' of h2g2 has gone then, the ability to allow people to find people elsewhere. (Ie: they to find me)
Cheers for clarifying where I (personally) stand.

Here: http://airforce.ca/
There, Nick, if people want to see what the Association is about, they can go to its web page. That's what's important, isn't it? It's about putting people in touch with the Association, right?
Now it's been done.

For what it's worth, Nick, over the years that I've been here, I've had one or two posts hidden because I revealed to much personal information. I'm not sure that the tradition you mention was ever much of a tradition.

The ability to be found off-hootoo has been pretty common, several ACEs and others have specific Yahooie and GiggleMail accounts just for that
I suppose for anyone here to find the Trenton specific link or a connection to our monthly newsletter, I will have to get a-hold of the Web-gal and have her put something in there ...

I'll have to get a-hold of Noel and get him to shuffle-up the September edition. He completely missed the August one ...
And yep, my piccy site has been open for ages. I'm quite pleased with the tat. Captures a dozen meanings for me and was my prezzie to myself for my 50th birthday

Anhaga, would you be kind enough to back-track to the Trenton page and post a link to the newsletter again? The new one is there, but if I post it, it would be out of context, promoting, yada-yada ...

Things would have been so much easier if it had been done that way in the first place.
