Jobseeker's Allowance
For people who are available for and actively seeking work. For men aged under 65 or women aged under 60.
why different ages?! Why is it that women should not be seeking work five years before men?
I think it's an archaic thing about men being bread winners and all that old
*kicks government*
That should really have been ing sorted out by now!
I think your right, there are no men in my house, me and mum are the breadwinners
We're supposed to be all equally. Gay people still can't get officially married, and women apparantly do not have equal rights. *mutters and stomps around looking grumpy*
I think the only reason for that is that those are the ages that historically people have retired, with Women as a rule retiring at that age. So they shouldn't need the money, as they can then get their pension...
What people have done in the past should not mean we do the same now. Equal rights means that we get the same deal, fair or foul (with the possible exception of maternity leave.... at least until we can work out a way to make men give birth.) My mum supported me entirely on her own for nineteen years and counting, without any kind of maintenance from my paternal side, and she managed a degree and an MA.
Have you checked the age at wich women get old age benefits? It might be 5 years earlier than men...
You don't seem to understand that that is not the point. What it is saying is that women are considered old and incapable five years before men are.
Maybe it's just overprotectiveness. Women get to take it easy earlier for some reason...
I'll tell you something else that's odd.
A professor at a university can work untill he's 65, then he has to retire. A professor by royal appointment, however, doesn't retire untill he's 70.
So, royal appointment prevents you from going fuzzy in the head for at least 5 years...
And you haven't thought about contacting the peeps in the Jobcentre and asking why the difference?
When you don't get an answer you work your way up.
"Equal rights means that we get the same deal, fair or foul (with the possible exception of maternity leave.... at least until we can work out a way to make men give birth.)"
Why I could keep one in a box.

Have you stopped to think that despite the fact we don't live as long, get conscripted to fight in daft wars, have to check noises in the shed at night because women don't want to and generally get a fairly pants deal we STILL have to work five more years than women before we can retire on a state pension?
Oh, and to quote Bill Bailey: "Women have feminism, post-feminism, proto-feminism, rustico-feminism (that's feminism in the country) but there's been no masculist movement...." OK he does go on to illustrate how generally inept men are, but still is it worth making such an issue over having jobseekers replaced by a pension five yars before men because you feel that despite massive leaps forwards in equal rights in the past 20 years you're still the subjugated second class gender?
I don't know why you're moaning, Werekitty. Just ENJOY it! The guys should be moaning, they're the ones who have to work longer.
Feminism's fair enough, but you can go to far with it, you know. Next minute you'll all be demanding penises!
*says nothing in the vain hope that when she kills all male kind she may have pity on me...*
Meh. Let her have her fun.
i can see her now, fuming because she's not allowed to have a penis.
this is ridiculous
I agree. I doubt you'd see any girls complaining if they where alowed to leave class half an hour early.
If I want a penis I know exactly where to go to get several willing ones.
The point is not about enjoying it or not enjoying it or whatever. The point is that men and women are not equal, and frankly it's been a hell of a long time of inequality, and we're not out of it yet. If we start just accepting our place again we'll just go downhill again. I understand that there are gender roles and that men and women are very different creatures. But this incidence implies inferiority.
*Ahem* Have you seen this Kitty http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brune...9?thread=1139899&show=20&skip=0#pi4 I'm lost for words
