Entry: UPDATE: Mobile Phones - A69930138 Author: Devonseaglass-dsg - U13965605
Will add some links over the next few days. Also need to contact original authors; but they seem to have disappeared. We probably need to update the photo too!
not going to have chance to read this today, but for turning this round so fast!
A112366 <----- The original Entry! for comparison.
Lanzababy
hi again,
just skimmed through it -
the euro sign is <ENTITY TYPE="euro"/>
something weird seems to be happening with all your apostrophes.
eg operator’s
can you search and replace with an ordinary apostrophe?
If you need any further special character codes you can find them here: A266951
- also not sure you need the preliminary ['] on the word plane. I think that's a bit OTT
good luck with this!
Lanza
Thanks Lanza. My apostrophes are from Word; will change them.
Cheers
As well as the apostrophes, could you change:
<<Bluetooth and Wi-Fi short range wireless>> Bluetooth and Wi-Fi short-range wireless (hyphen in short-range)
<<front and rear facing>> front- and rear-facing (hyphens [x2])
<<The latest smartphones are at the pinnacle of this continuing design process.>> If they are at the pinnacle, then they can only get worse from now on. That may be true, but not I think what you meant. Perhaps <The latest smartphones are at the leading-edge of this continuing design process.>
<<The new coalition government in the UK has banned mobile phones from cabinet meetings.>> To avoid this phrase ageing, could you change it to something like <In 2010, the incoming coalition government in the UK banned mobile phones from cabinet meetings.>
Otherwise well done dsg
Thank you h5, your comments have been adopted totally and hyphens are my new friend! 'Leading-edge' increased the hyphen count even more. By-the-way, did the apostrophes pass muster?
<<did the apostrophes pass muster?>> No, there are still problems with <Dell's>, <BBC's> and <Stephen Fry's>
Thank you.I'm humbled. <humble>
I believe that 4G isn't technically a standard yet so atm it's just a marketing term. If I can I'll dig up where I found that out and send you the link.
Thanks Menthol. The term 4G is not a standard, just a shorthand way of referring to the next generation of standards. The ITU has not officially published a standard for 4G, so far, but there is work underway, as described here: http://www.mobilebusinessbriefing.c...ologies-do-not-officially-exist-yet
It's rather complicated and in my entry I was trying to simplify it, otherwise it becomes an article about standards. In practical terms both WiMAX and LTE networks are now in service.
It works for me as it is
Could you take the [space] out of 'short- range' pls
It is done, thank you. <hyphens-are-us>
There is a nice article on operating systems (A306839) that you might want to link too. It discusses mobile OSs quite a bit
I don't think WiMax et al are 4G yet. I think the ITU standard say sustained 100Mbs is required to be 4G.

How's this going? Is everyone happy with the update, or do we need more changes before dsg asks for the update to go through?
This seems to have got forgotten about.
Is DevonSeaGlass still around?
One thing I spotted: "50 pixels per square centimetre" - that has to be wrong. That would be only 7 pixels per linear centimetre, making the pixels more than 1 millimetre across!
Should it be 2,500 pixels per square centimetre?
yes - I've seen him somewhere recently, just a few days ago I think.
I was wondering the other day, whether by the time this got noticed it would be out-of-date yet again.
If that detail about screen resolution is fixed and people are happy with the rest of it, I can put through the update very quickly. The Eds may not get a chance to publicise it, though, so we can do that on the new site.
Thanks Gnomon. I will check it and have another read-through. A lot of things have happened in this market since it was updated. Maybe we need an updated update....
Changed the screen resolution to >300 ppi. Increased the number of Apps to > 400,000.
