In a recent controlled experiment, 40 mammals were raced over a distance of about 4 1/2 miles. Two, that's 5% of them were so badly injured that they were 'beyond repair' and had to be killed.
There are 36,000 people preparing to run in the marathon today. A 5% attrition rate will result in 1,800 deaths today. And that will be in only the first 4 1/2 miles!
Ban the marathon.
