I visit here quite often, and prefer the smaller blobs for my space and other pages, so I thought I'd take a couple of minutes to say Thank you, your time doing these page is appreciated.

I seem to be doing it mostly on my own these days. Also, since the absence of the blurb (the original missing of which had apparently been a lot of what caused FP people to complain and had thus prompted the two of us to start this visible archiving), I was beginning to wonder whether just the links and little images were worth it to other people. Apart from later deletions there are other dna ways merely to list the EG articles you see and this archive never did include all the other incidental site images anyway. But as long as at least you're still using it for something, I suppose I should get on and start an August 2005 page ...
Hi again SEF (it's Em, in a different name) when I noticed regular blobs were being used on front page, I thought that was the end of the small blobs, glad to see it's not.

I'd already figured out it was you from the previous conversation flow and the butterfly.
The continuation of the small blobs is rather dependent on them being there. There had previously been occasion that staff had cheated by resizing a large blob on the fly within the page itself. So that may be necessary here with today's one (ie yesterday now) which doesn't appear to exist or be uploaded in any other form.
Ok
SEF, sometimes I like the small blobs on the Front page, (other than new Entry) and haven't seen them before, like todays; the cats. Can you give me the link to view the front page coding, or the coding for the cats blob.

Apart from linking to the very early front pages as a whole as well as copying more relevant sections from them, I haven't generally made the page numbers visible or included the collaborative or talking point topics. For the former, at least one member of staff decided to pretend there was something wrong with giving a readable link despite it not being against house rules at all and being a standard advertised dna technique for showing page contents. I hadn't done the other topics because the staff had already provided official pages supposedly linking to all of those (though I had noticed some items were missing) and their blurb wasn't what was being missed by users who had an FP item.
Perhaps, if you are approximately the only person still using this archive and what you most want are the images, I should reconsider this deliberate omission. I could do monthly or seasonal pages of the CT and TP items or interleave them back into the other pages. Meanwhile, the cats images are:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/blobs/catbasket_sm.jpg (small) http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/blobs/catbasket.jpg (landscape)
and the code being used in situ is:
<PICTURE EMBED="Left" SHADOW="None" H2G2IMG="catbasket_sm.jpg" ALT="A scruffy kitten - an alternative home for fleas, perhaps?" />
You don't need that ALT text of course, or the SHADOW and can omit or change the EMBED too.
Brilliant SEF
Sorry, I wasn't sure if we were allowed to know the coding for the front page and remembered after I posted that you were on pre-mod and everything you send is read by the mods.
This is what I'm doing with the small blobs at the moment A5714165 once it's finished I'll transfer it to an Entry in Ems name, not sure how popular it will be. I've added a link to The FrontPage Archive at the bottom, hopefully more will visit the 'Archive'

It reminds me of Farlander's (long-standing and perhaps forgotten) plan to have a microbe petting zoo.

I did check there was nothing similar, the only page I came across was 'Adopt a Gorrilla', so I left gorilla off mine.
Do you know if there's a small blob of this;

There's only a slightly smaller one rather than one in the 90 to 100 pixel range: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/oldblobs/827644.jpg A lot of the photos people took on trips are like that - just uploaded in very large and normally large sizes.
You could use HTML code to clip it or to shrink it (WIDTH and HEIGHT in proportion).
Otherwise there's another tiger here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/oldblobs/2111560.gif from the old B-numbers again

I'll play with the (WIDTH and HEIGHT) if I can't get it how I'm happy with it, I'll use the other one.

With that slightly smaller one, WIDTH="100" HEIGHT="75" should do it nicely.

SEF, I've tried several ways, and just can't get the smaller blob to work.

For the smaller version of the tiger photo: <PICTURE BLOB="B827644" WIDTH="100" HEIGHT="75" />
For the circle with the drawn tiger's face: <PICTURE BLOB="B2111560" />
I've just tried previewing both in a test article. So they certainly work for me.

SEF I didn't know they could be done that simply I was trying to use the ALT and EMBED.
