Why do you fear getting old, Fanny, if that's not too personal to ask?
I turn 50 one month from today, and find I don't mind growing older at all. I am more fit and more smart than I was when I was 20, I weigh the same amount as I did then and I'm definitely enjoying life wayyyy more.
I have a knee that's getting a bit stiff and won't let me do certain yoga postures anymore (forget lotus, for example). But so what?
And I finally don't have to wash my hair every day anymore! Woo-hoo!
Frankly, I can't wait for menopause. Any month now, I hope. (TMI, I'm sure.)
My husband and I are going to hike down the Grand Canyon this fall to celebrate my 50th. I thought that was the perfect way to do it.
I would say I can't wait for retirement because I have so many plans, but I have 17 years and six months to go so I won't "wish my life away," as my mother used to say when I was a little girl. (She's 86 and doing great, by the way.)
