The most incredible amount of stuff has been going on, on this site for several months since BBC announced their decision that they were dumping us.
It says a lot to me to do with the strength and feeling of our community that so much stuff would happen.
We all contribute in our different ways like in any rich complex community.
You suddenly return. And I see your remarks to do with mental illness.
You lurk anhaga's space and then start a thread based on that called 'What is wrong with h2g2?' But you don't *come clean* about the reason. anhaga guesses where you have been lurking on his space.
There some much here about the brilliance of this community you don't *get*. You missed the main story of the last few months...
Carry on with your side swipes at me though if it makes you feel good

I'm not sure if there's a thread running through those paragraphs, so I'm not sure what your actual point is here Effers. But I'll try and answer your post as honestly as possible.
"The most incredible amount of stuff has been going on, on this site for several months since BBC announced their decision that they were dumping us."
I know. I wasn't posting, but I was aware of what was happening.
"It says a lot to me to do with the strength and feeling of our community that so much stuff would happen."
Agreed. Having had discussions with some of the people who put the bid together, and having seen the hard work people have put in, I'm impressed with how the community has kept h2g2 going.
"We all contribute in our different ways like in any rich complex community."
I don't think that's the case. I think that like in any community, there are people who bust a bollock to contribute, and others who decide to complain and make life difficult. Case in point, one of the new mod team who I'm happy to call a friend. I've never seen them as dispirited as after taking some flak in Ask because a few naysayers would rather throw rocks than be constructive.
"You suddenly return. And I see your remarks to do with mental illness."
Hardly sudden. I've been here for nine years. There have been points when I've been here every day, and times when I've not posted for months. During those quiet periods, I've still been talking to h2g2ers off site, keeping up with what's going on.
In the spirit of *honesty*, here's why I had a soujourn from h2g2. I'm a creative person. I write. I wrote a review of the last Hitchhiker's book. I agreed that it could be published in The Post with proper attribution to my personal website where it was first published. The BBC's T&Cs meant that an excerpt from that was reproduced without my knowledge or consent, and without any attribution, elsewhere on the site. I then made a conscious decision not to contribute to h2g2 under the BBC. As I wasn't writing for h2g2, I posted less on h2g2. A natural progression.
With the BBC out of the picture, it seemed like a good time to post more regularly.
As for the mental illness remarks, you seem to be hell-bent on taking me out of context. My EXACT words to Kea were as follows:
"I'd be surprised if a fair few people on h2g2 didn't have some sort of mental illness to be honest"
That doesn't need defending. That's a matter of percentages. Given the number of h2g2 posters, I'd be shocked beyond belief if there was only ONE person on h2g2 with a mental illness, be it depression, autism, anxiety, bipolar, whatever. In fact, I KNOW there's at least one other h2g2er with a mental illness, because I'm a close friend of a person who wrote an entry on living with depression.
The bit you're pussy-footing around is the bit that deals with you directly. I assume that there are a number of people with mental illnesses on h2g2, and I don't find anyone as difficult to deal with as you. My wording to Kea was crude, and perhaps unfair. Had I walked away and come back, I wouldn't have called you snide or manipulative. I apologise for that, but my point still stands. I honestly don't find anyone (and that includes people like Hoo, Ed and SWL who can be hard work) on h2g2 as difficult to deal with as you.
"You lurk anhaga's space and then start a thread based on that called 'What is wrong with h2g2?' But you don't *come clean* about the reason. anhaga guesses where you have been lurking on his space."
I'm a regular reader of the info page. I "lurk" (I prefer read) dozens and dozens of personal spaces on this site. It gives me a wonderfully interesting insight into people, and it's one of the joys of h2g2.
That thread was started because I saw a journal post by someone who wasn't happy with how things were going on h2g2, and didn't seem like they'd be comfortable broaching the subject. That said, it seemed like an important discussion to have. Anhaga chose to get involved, and when he did I had a discussion with him about why I started that thread.
If he had an issue with it, he had the opportunity to tell me so. So I've honestly got no idea why you seem to feel the need to white knight on his behalf.
"There some much here about the brilliance of this community you don't *get*. You missed the main story of the last few months..."
Which is what? If it's the move, then I didn't miss it. If the move isn't the main story, then I disagree with you on what the main story is.
"Carry on with your side swipes at me though if it makes you feel good"
I don't do it because it makes me feel good. I hate having to pull you up on your behaviour. There are many threads where we bump along nicely. But when you make demands, start badmouthing volunteers and generally make threads I'm participating in less fun, I feel the need to pull you up on it.
If my behaviour was disruptive, I'd hope that someone would do the same for me.
I'd love to be able for us to bump along nicely. I don't hold any ill-feeling towards you, beyond a low-level frustration. You're funny, and you've got a lot to offer. But you seem to need to balance every positive contribution with an outburst of some description, and it grinds my gears.
What's the info page?
I keep meaning to find out.
Nick has mentioned it, now you...I seem to remember Lil has...
**
Nice long post. I only really skimmed it. I might read it again more thoroughly later.
You seem to get a bit of true meaning...but clearly miss loads.
We're more or less where we started.
But I'm hoping I can find a way to contribute meaningfully to new h2g2.
If not tough shit. C'est la vie..
I'll stay here though all the time anhaga does. But once he's gone, I'm probably also gone.
Are you really that one dimensional in your thinking?
