The Showcase is an idea whose time has come. A86099809

I'm excited about the panel we've convened to select entries. It includes some of h2g2's most prolific and most talented writers. We also managed to convince Robbie Stamp to help out.

So please mosey over there and nominate the very best entries on h2g2. You only have 3 votes (1 EG, 1 UG, one neither) so be careful and thoughtful. By nominating an entry, you're saying, "This is the best entry on h2g2 in this category."

I think that is too exclusive. I wouldn't claim that any one entry nominated is 'best entry on h2g2 in this category'. To be honest, there are far too many entries to find out. And it is subjective, no matter how much you try to be objective. To me, the showcase should contain a variety of entries, all of them well written and appealing to many. smiley

Well, no one's trying to be objective, or for that matter, inclusive. Those are nice words, but they don't fit our purpose here.

The Edited Guide is supposed to be an inclusive place for well-written entries that have a wide appeal. That's not what the Showcase was meant to do.

The entire purpose of the Showcase is to pick the very best of h2g2. It is by nature exclusive (and that sounds worse than it really is).

I agree that no one can read everything, but that's why the nominations part is so crucial - to bring together everyone's shared experience of the best of h2g2.

I think each of us could nominate a variety of entries which fit the scheme. Having to go for one is extremely difficult. It's going to be interesting to see the nominations.

Yes, forcing people to choose 1 of each genre was intended to make them think hard about their nominations. smiley

Bel, I am having a heck of a time making a selection myself. The one that automatically came to mind has already been nominated by someone else. <pouts>

I've made a list of Entries that I hope are nominated. I've got 20 EG Entries, 20 UnderGuide Entries and (so far) 6 "Others" that I aim to make up to 20 too.

That way, just before nominations close, I can make sure that a trio of worthies aren't forgotten.

When will nominations close, btw? Maybe we overlooked that detail.

Psst, Hyp and Pin: panelists have a different nomination procedure. Check the noesis thingy.

As far as I'm concerned, nominations are ongoing until we're approaching the end game - but I'd like to see the majority of the nominations in within a couple of weeks. The way we've set this up allows for a lot of flexibility, though.

I thought it was another case of me being as blind as a bat when I looked for a closing date. biggrin
