I'm not sure about the comparison of Leeds in size to Athens. While the official city limits of Athens have a population similar to the official size of Leeds, there is really no distinction between Athens and the areas around it. Really Athens is one big city of 3.8 million people, so I don't think it is appropriate to compare it with Leeds.
I don't know about the others: Amsterdam and so on.
