retrogaming: Atari 2600: Mar 13, 2012
I went to a convention and purchased a used atari 2600 console with some controllers and a library of 37 compatible games from some fellow for a sizable discount. I noticed on unpacking it though that the machine did not come with an RF modulator and am going to go to RadioShack to buy the parts to make a new one as a DIY project. It will be hard to tell if the machine works or not without being able to connect it to a television or a vcr. This little refurbishing project a friend of mine and I are going to undertake has set me back so far about $30 (USD) and will hopefully not require an expensive RF Demodulator ($100-110 USD). If I just buy an adapter ($3-5) and a 300-75 Ohm transformer ($3-5?) and a game/television switcher with either coaxial switching or duplex/multiplexing ($3-7) perhaps we can use that to bring the machine back to life without having to do too much taking apart and soldering.
Unfortunately my VCR appears to only have component video instead of composite so I'm just hoping if I and he noodle with the set-up just right we can get the audio and video signals to separate or at least transmit coherently, without having to buy a big expensive demodulator box to attach a modulator to which feels like going around in a big loop/circle.

So Today is my birthday.
I can't say being 25 feels that much different from being 24, so far yet. I think I understand people a bit better than I did when I was 21...

Odd Job: Tutoring: Feb 3, 2012
I have taken on the informal job of being a tutor to coach people through writing and giving presentations. It doesn't take up too much time since it's just once a week but I'm wondering whether I should really put a frame around my first dollar or not... (does anybody really do that anymore or is it just for stores?).

What the hell: Familial Interference: Jan 18, 2012
My father is acting creepy and overmicromanaging me to death again. Acting highly resentful that I am being given research projects (and for once actually spending much decent time working on them) and is positively venomous that I want to go to a psychiatrist of my own choosing instead of this young female psychologist he'd rather I go to (I suspect because he's schmoozed with her enough so as to make hopping over the patient-therapist confidentiality agreement be less of a big deal).
He will not show me an ounce of respect or allow me to have my own differing opinions or attitudes towards things and is screaming at me how I have no business deciding who I may want to see or which of my own mental health issues I want to deal with in what order even though it is my own mind and my own life because I am "not a psychologist or psychiatrist". Here's the thing though,- he isn't one either, and bandying about textbook terms to silence other people and rationalize it because you figure they are insane is not the most mature course of action. Nevermind that I'm the only one in my family to have actually taken any psychology courses at the university level. I just wish he'd either go away or shut up and stop trying to derail me from my projects on purpose.

Battling Depression: Nov 29, 2011
Let's see, um, I don't have much friends, girls don't like me, I am having a way harder time being able to focus and concentrate (as well as just stay awake much in general day or night) so my grades this semester are in the toilet. Alright... well, my project isn't done yet and everything's going to stay in crunch mode but there is a good chance of being published in a trade journal so that's something.
