WEIHNACHTSSPIEL 2004
This game is about lyrics of Christmas carols.
Instructions: Someone (me ) starts off giving a line (or a few lines) of a famous Christmas carol – it has to be either an English carol or a German “Weihnachtslied” (= Christmas carol). But: The English line(s) of the carol have to be translated into German. And: The German “Weihnachtslied-Zeile” has to be in English.
Goal: the other players are supposed to figure out which carol (or Weihnachtslied) the lines are taken from, and give the appropriate translation (i.e. the original version of the line).
Example: it’s a German carol translated into English:
“Silently is trickling the snow, Calm and frozen lies the lake”
(I went for a very literal translation here – it’s up to you how analogous or literal your translated lines will be.)
Now you have to find out of which (in this case) German Weihnachtslied the lines are taken from and write down the German (i.e. original) version (+ the title of the song).
Solution for the given example:
Title: Leise rieselt der Schnee
translation (original version): "Leise rieselt der Schnee, Still und starr ruht der See."
The player who knew the solution goes on and provides a new translated song line of another German or English carol. (You needn’t take the first lines of the chosen carol (as in the example above). You can of course take any line(s) of the carol you like.)
Don’t hesitate using dictionaries (http://dict.leo.org/?lang=en&lp=ende&search=) and (for example) Google! (And in emergencies ask your bable-fish – but ONLY in emergencies, KATKAT!)
Any questions?
I’ll start off with English lines translated into German:
“Er sieht dich wenn du schläfst, Er weiß wann du wach bist. Er weiß ob du schlimm oder brav warst! Also sei doch bitte brav!“ (The last line isn’t translated well – don’t know how to make it sound more literal.)
Which English carol is it (title + translation)? If you need a hint, just ask!
Have fun!!! snowman>

P.S.: in each post there has to be at least one Christmas-smiley!!!

Posted Dec 7, 2004 by Kat - From H2G2 Okay...this is Santa Claus is Coming To town...
and it's
"He sees you when you're sleeping He knows when you're awake He knows if you've been bad or good So be good for goodness sake.."
Or as the last line actually goes... "Therefore be nevertheless please good"
I don't know any German carols...actually that's a good point. How can I play this? oh

Here we are. The original's in latin, so I've translated the English translation but the original latin will suffice
Freuen Sie sich! Freuen Sie sich! Christ ist geboren Von Jungfrau Maria; Freuen Sie sich!
