An ongoing experiment

I guess that's how I view life, not just mine but that of the universe. I was born in one of the worst winters of modern times in 1947. The river Thames was frozen enough to allow skaters to skate and hot chestnut vendors to vend. I sometimes think the world has gone to hell in a handbag since then but that may just be old fogey talk. I live in Billingham which is either in Teesside or Cleveland, depending on the individual point of view. Before the boundaries were altered in the spaced out Sixties, Billingham used to be in the county of Durham and everyone knew where they stood. Around 1972 the powers that be thought mixing stuff up a bit more would be a good idea and formed the county of Cleveland. Now some folks would like parts of Cleveland to be claimed by Yorkshire. I'm not saying that all of us up here are confused but I know a lot who are. The experiment will continue.

How to look like a dork without really trying
Mar 24, 2007

Arghh! we viewed the piccies the photographer guy took. Everyone looks cool except me. I hate having my photograph taken, perhaps it does rob some of the soul. I look like some sort of ah-soul.

Picture this
Mar 16, 2007

My daughter wants to have a proper photograph of Pam and myself so she arranged a date with a local guy, http://www.garywalsh.co.uk.
We arranged to meet at his studio and were greeted by a team of glaziers who were in the process of replacing the front windows which had been smashed by the friday night retards. His was one of many targetted by the drunken morons. We decided the Billingham ecology park would be an ideal location and in due course we set off to find suitable posing places. The wind was blowing and the temperature was dropping when Gary said, "Here's a good spot. Take off your coats and stand on the bridge." Like lambs we obliged and tried not to shiver as he implored us to look happy. "More happy!" We were allowed to put our top coats back on as we trudged around, stopping at different sites and dis-robing and posing as directed. As yet we have not seen the results, we have to choose the shots we like. I hope they don't show the effect the cold wind and trickling water was having on my bladder.

The Lull
Mar 13, 2007

It's been a hectic week. Our daughter and son in law came from Boston Ma to join with friends and family from other far flung places in celebration of my Pam's retirement and our birthdays. Now the house is quiet but the memories remain with the scent from the many gifts of bouquets and plants for the garden. Our son-in-law,Diego had not sampled a Teesside "Parmo" - chicken deepfried in breadcrumbs then covered with bechamel sauce and smothered in cheddar cheese- he has added it to his list of fav foods to consume after a few jars. If you want more info http://www.myspace.com/limeyg or http://www.bbc.co.uk/tees/food/parmo/index.shtml.

Total eclipse
Mar 4, 2007

Feb 3 2007 I went out into the garden to photograph the eclipse. It was cold and my hands started to cramp so I couldn't akle the little knobs and buttons. I took a couple of snaps but nothing worth displaying. There are plenty of good images out there in cyber space but at least I made the effort. I signed up to Second life and have started exploring this new virtual world. It is possible to simulate most actions and events that take place in the real world. As yet my building skills are limited to making anomalous lumps which I leave about the place. These are returned as lost and found and placed back in my inventory. I visited a place called Roma, a simulation of ancient Rome complete with amphitheatre. I took a boat ride outside the city and landed on a small island. Unfortunately I neglected to moor my vessel and I am now stranded on this island waiting for someone to come to my rescue. My darling wife celebrated her 60th birthday today. We are awash with bottles of wine and champers and the house is like a florists.

I am passing this on to you because I hear it definitely works, and we could all use a little more calmness in our lives.
By following simple advice heard on the Dr. Phil show, you too can find inner peace.
Dr. Phil proclaimed, "The way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you have started and have never finished."
So, I looked around my house to see all the things I started and hadn't finished, and before leaving the house this morning, I finished off a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of White Zinfandel, a bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream, a bottle of Kaluha, a package of Oreos, the remainder of my old Prozac prescription, the rest of the cheesecake, some Doritos and a box of chocolates.
You have no idea how bloody good I feel. Please pass this on to those whom you think might be in need of inner peace.

Never too late to learn
Feb 27, 2007

First of all I'd like to say thank you to h2g2. I've been in the doldrums for a while and now I have a new interest I've found out lots of stuff about lots of things. I'm beginning to learn GuideML and have used some in my introduction. I'm pushing sixty very hard and my brain is a bit on the soft side. I'm in the process of adapting to a new lifestyle/routine as my dear wife has now retired after working a night shift for eighteen years. During that time I was my own man for most of the evening hours and I guess I became a bit insular in outlook. I could have gone to the boozer but preferred to stay at home and either write or play my 5string, although I do admit to sinking the odd can of "spesh" now and again, (I think I play better with a bit of lubrication) So now a new horizon has been met and new challenges are waiting.
