Technology - remembering the things you don't want to
Mar 26, 2007

At 8am today, it became One Of Those Days.

You know how lots of mobile phones have calendar functions now? Well, when I got mine a few months ago, I went mad adding people's birthdays, my appointments, anything I could be bothered adding. And then quickly got bored and forgot all about it.

Only, at the time of buying said phone, there was a man in my life. And, of course, I added his birthday. Which, as I discovered when my alarm went off this morning, just happens to be today.

Bum.

So of course, now I can remember his birthday, along with all the other things I forced myself to forget about when he turned out to be not as nice as I'd once thought he was.

Going to have a DVD marathon tonight, I think. Apparently Torchwood Volume 3 is out today, and I just happen to go past WHSmith on my way home. And I REALLY need it for therapeutic reasons today! (That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it)

Happy anniversary!
Mar 12, 2007

To, erm, me.

Yesterday it was a whole year since I smoked my last cigarette. So big raspberries to all those people who said I couldn't do it. I don't even WANT a fag anymore.

Flu
Feb 26, 2007

Haven't had it in nine years, and certainly the first time I've had it without someone around to look after me (and Madam, who is thankfully very understanding for her age). However, my impeccable sense of timing, which I hated when I was at school, led me to only get ill outside of term time.

Still had to do the Tesco run, so did a HUGE shop with the help of a taxi (£3.50 for what would normally be walking distance!!!) giving me the opportunity to stay home for a long time if necessary - my friend who had it assured me he didn't leave his bed for a fortnight when he had it. Must've been man flu.

I regained the ability to sleep after a couple of days, at which point I felt fine, until the blasted cough started. I actually pulled muscles doing it, and had to bend over and/or pull my legs up to my chest whenever I started coughing. I'm still coughing a little bit, but it doesn't hurt anymore.

Just waiting for my voice to come back now. It's almost back already, at the moment I can talk but I can't sing. Last week I tried to pay my water bill at the Post Office which was difficult. If I lose my voice again, I'll be sure to write little notes for the various things I have to do.

Anyway, I was ill, and now I'm not. It was kind of a disappointment really.

Bloody holidays
Feb 12, 2007

Almost had a panic last night. I was looking at my Radio Times and discovered CBBC and CBeebies had switched times on BBC2 - a good indicator of school holidays. (Seriously, do toddlers get up earlier at half-term?!)

Nobody at college the previous week had mentioned half term. I thought I'd phone the college and find out, but the switchboard doesn't open until after I get off my train at the other end, and round about the time I get the bus. So I had to do my usual getting-up-an-hour-earlier routine, not knowing if there was any point in doing so, hoping to call the college from the bus stop.

You've probably figured out by now that the college is open, because I'm here typing this.

THANK YOUR CHOSEN DEITY, the train was full of schoolkids and students (wow, never thought I'd say that!). Turns out this is one of the holidays we have a week later than everyone else.

One week later...
Feb 5, 2007

Much the same, except it's Richard Hammond this week. He looks a bit older since the crash. Better, IMO drool .

13 months, no longer counting!
Jan 29, 2007

Wow. It's been a whole year and a bit since I wrote anything in here. Partly because Madam doesn't sleep in the library, and more recently because I spend most of my online time searching for pictures of John Barrowman.

Pointless, given that I'm female, but I have few pleasures left since giving up smoking, drinking, swearing and staying up late. Since giving birth I've discovered there are two six o'clocks in a day, even Sundays.

Also decided to have a name change. The Jones is Welsh, obviously (I'm not Welsh, I just wish I was) and the best surname ever. And I guess I just wanted a weird first name.

Changed a lot, eh? I also now wear glasses (oh I did before - it's not been THAT long then) and have gone brunette. Kicked Plastic Scouser into touch after he got drunk again and went missing again. On my birthday. Nice of him. Had an email off him recently, I don't think he even figured out we'd split up. After a year of no contact and me actually telling him he was dumped at the time.

Madam is walking, talking, and using the toilet. Sometimes all at once.

I bought a digibox only to discover I don't live in a Freeview area. I can still get a handful of channels, including E4+1 but not E4.

I'm in college, and should really be preparing for my exam next week. The man sitting next to me is very attractive.

Big Brother

Is it just me or is Eugene from Big Brother 6 the most unbelievably gorgeous man on the planet?

School Holidays

I love when the schools go back after holidays. The only thing limiting my computer time in the library is Madam!

Ding-a-ling!
Oct 24, 2005

Well, Saturday night was, erm, eventful! At about 1.30am the fire alarm went off, so I had to carry Madam out to the hall (my flat is at the back of the building so you have to go outside to get to the hall) to go and switch it off, only to find that there were two other people there. Madam was screaming the place down because she'd been woken up and the alarm isn't exactly a pleasant noise. So we looked at the display panel and it was the flat above ours that had triggered it - and, wouldn't you know it, the guy who lives there was out. So we decided between us to reset the alarm and, if it went off again, we would either contact the guy who lived there or wake Landlord (not a nice person at the best of times). So we reset it and, thankfully, it didn't go off again. But then Madam wouldn't settle and I couldn't get back to sleep either!

MADAM WALKS!
Oct 14, 2005

Madam has finally got the hang of the walking thing! She can even get up if she falls over without needing some furniture to steady herself!

Pop goes the sprog!
Oct 13, 2005

My friend gave birth on Saturday to a little girl. And, get this - she was only in labour for FOUR HOURS!

If I have any more babies, I want a labour like that.

Locals vs Tourists
Oct 11, 2005

Why is it that some tourists think that all locals are tour guides? I mean, I have no trouble with people asking me for directions, but we can't usually give full reviews of every hotel in the town (for one, we have houses and flats here - we don't tend to need hotels) or other tourist information. We have an office for that, ffs!

So, a conversation I had with a tourist this afternoon:

Her: Do you know where the nearest cinema is? (fine, innocent enough question - someone round here would know that)

Me: The nearest one is in Junction.

Her: Do you know if it's showing Pride and Prejudice? (Grr - does she think all local people memorise listings in case we get asked stuff like that?)

And they nearly always park on my road (which is only small - not enough room even for the residents' cars). Oh, and drive the wrong way up one-way streets.

More Needles
Oct 1, 2005

Madam had her MMR yesterday. Screamed the place down. Thankfully Plastic Scouser didn't see it because he probably would've cried. Oh well, at least we don't have to do this again for another two years or so.

Why...
Sep 26, 2005

...do certain family members think it's a good idea to skip the country without even so much as a goodbye?

Madam has started saying a few words. She's been calling the Plastic Scouser "Daddy" evilgrin . She also calls me Mummy, and herself Baba wow

Walking!
Sep 16, 2005

Yay my daughter walked today! She was doing it loads in playgroup this morning! In other news, the Plastic Scouser is doing a spot of voluntary work in one of the charity shops round here.

Back?
Jul 12, 2005

It's been a long time. Things have happened, people have arrived and left, others still won't leave despite being asked to do so by the police. For now, things are good. Old boyfriend was a control freak, new one wants to kill him...

Madam is crawling and trying to stand, she has one tooth and says a couple of words.

R.I.P. A Very Good Friend.
Feb 28, 2005

One of the closest friends I ever had on IRC, I felt as if I could tell him anything. He had been through 5 years of treatment for leukaemia, and he always seemed so upbeat about it, it seemed he would get better. However, he was taken from us on Friday.

One day, on the other side, we'll have that meeting we once talked of.

It's A Girl!
Sep 4, 2004

Well it's been a whole week since I was last online, and a lot has happened! On Saturday morning my waters broke and 9 hours later my little daughter Leonie Hannah Sheila was born by Caesarean section (she was breech and until Saturday no-one had spotted it - so it wasn't her head that was engaged, it was her bum!).

Yay
Aug 2, 2004

The email problem wasn't at my end, it was because of a problem with the comp of the guy who was sending me the emails smiley

I can't really explain why that's such good news though because I don't want to jinx it blush

Jul 29, 2004

And I had to have another one today. Honestly, if you're scared of needles, DON'T GET PREGNANT! I need to have even more next week because I'm Rhesus Negative so I have to have those Anti-D thingies. Grr!

**shudders at the thought of all these needles**

A Good Day For Once
Jul 16, 2004

I had to stay an extra half hour in work today, but for once I'm not whingeing about it because I got a free teddy bear from unsold stock... and I didn't have to work in the back room because it was quiet, so I was on the till, which is much more interesting and less knackering. In fact, I only took one tea break on my whole shift, which makes a change - normally I find any excuse to take a rest...
