Freebies
Oct 8, 1999
Wouldn't it be great if this totally free internet calls thing panned out but seems odd there's been so little publicity(that I've seen anyway) I bet they don't do it for Apple at the start, I'll be really jealous if P gets on it and can I still have to be trying to keep phone bill down.
Could cause havoc with work though!
Music Music Music
Oct 8, 1999
Did some tinkering today and have finally got Quick time musical instruments to work by doing a custom install , now I can finally appreciate the Musical joys of Fenchurch's page!! (http://www.h2g2.com/U37819)
Had a quick scout for midi sources found New Order Blue Monday and Smashing Pumpkins "1979"( at least these bands make obvious where there influences lie see also ASH -"1977'!)
All I need to do now is work out why Realplayer is so temperamental.

Rock and Roll
Oct 8, 1999
3rd lesson in Rock and roll dance class yesterday, can't believe I am going to dance classes(again!) but its great fun to be able to get on a dance floor and not have to do that apologetic stepping shuffle in a kind of Sting in a Police video in 1978 kind of dance. Now we are putting a few moves together its starting to feel pretty good, all we need now is for the whole rock and roll dance scene to get a bit further down than bournemouth or somewhwere although not entirely sure if the people at those things might take it a bit seriously can't see me in lime green teddy boy jacket and blue suede shoes (then again...)
The Clash
Oct 8, 1999
Excellent documentary about the Clash on TV on Saturday ,horrible to think that it was all more than 20 years ago! Watching the prog reminded me of how important the punk thing was to me at the time (music and general outlook on life wise (not fashionwise tho' I did go for the drainpipe ripped jeans / docs etc look!!))amazing that that musical "taste" has stayed with me over 20 years since ,I really loved the philosophy that you didn't have to be able to play (or sing) to be in a band and if no one liked what you did, who cared, as long as you were having a good time*. Still like really noisy aggressive raw music though also now into a lot of stuff I would have deemed Hippy crap at the time Also interesting how many bands are still playing that kind of music today , the equivalent of 70's bands playing 50's music(Ok Mud etc !)but nothing like the amount of indie bands of the moment who all sound like their albums could have been recorded in 1979, not that that's a bad thing necessarily if thats what they want to do!(see above*) Blondie doc. was pretty interesting also.
I must try and write a guide entry on all this

Journal backlog
Oct 8, 1999
1 Well had a good holiday , Kind of weird having a holiday so close to home but some people drive hundreds of miles for a holiday here and there's still some great places we've yet to visit in Cornwall .St Just seems to be the new St Ives , lots of great galleries . Also it was really nice not having to spend valuable free time trolling up a motorway or stuck at an airpoirt, and September is great in Cornwall . Mind you we were very flukey with the weather on the most part ie sunbathing on beach reading books and watching seals at 6.30pm one evening . Shame surf wasn't too cool at Sennen/ Gwenver, as a couple of mates had classic waves at Penhale during same period, Still you can't have everything (...where would you put it??? )(SW)

Surfin Safari

Another late evening surf, Still only 2-3 ft Rats was sure it would be 4+.Great sunset, great to see the sun dip into the sea and the light shining through the backs of the waves as the sun gets low . Typically today it's gone to 6ft hope it holds for a few days as we're.. "Loading up the Woody with the boards inside and heading out singing our song...

Surf alert
Aug 31, 1999
Supposedly one of the biggest swells to hit Cornwall is due at the end of the week as a major hurricane swings off the US coast and gets within 250 miles of us before changing track and heading up towards the hebrides. North coast due to have waves of around 15 feet

Just thought I'd drop in and admire my ever growing no reply collection, it's such a shame that Bernadette so thoughtlessly ruined my previously untarnished record by responding to my user page but at least my forum entries have all been studiously overlooked, I wonder what the record is ? (Please don't answer that of course!)Managed to get a surf today despite being grey foggy drizzly and getting dark( at 8.30pm Shame) it was a fun little 2-3 foot on the South coast, Good for paddling practice when we finally get some storming Autumn swell.

Surfing
Aug 24, 1999
Getting withdrawal symptoms, Haven't been in the water for ages, are there any other salt water surfers out there? Have had a little search but keep getting articles about ironing boards or surfing the net, Hoping for a good swell on South coast (Cornwall) as workload is a bit heavy for North coast trips at the moment.
