Amy's Ants
Aug 15, 2006
It transpires that Amy's Ant is a type of fly used in fishing. I never knew that.
Amy Goes the Extra Mile
Jun 12, 2004
*jogs into a brand new journal thread wearing one red sock and five white ones*
My Sport Relief (http://www.sportrelief.com) pack has arrived so it's time to get down to some more serious training. The idea this time is that I
a timed mile in Roundhay Park, Leeds on Sport Relief Day (10th July) and collect sponsorship money for doing so. When I've run the mile they'll give me another red sock to prove that I've done it. Personally, I think they should give me an additional five socks but that's probably just me
.
The most observant and least drunk amongst you will notice that July 10 is also the date of the h2g2 meet in London. Obviously, I won't be attending the meet but I'm going to take advantage of the coincidence by asking those attending the meet to sponsor me and to give their money to Ormondroyd U95721 who will have my sponsor form with him.
If you're going to the meet and would like to commit yourself in advanced to sponsoring me - or if you have other means of getting sponsorship money either to Ormy or to myself - please post in this thread and I'll write your h2g2 nickname on my race number as one of my 'Mile Mates.' So, in a way, you'll do the mile with me. And you get to drink
while you're doing it. Who could say fairer than that?
I was about to say that you won't go all red and blotchy either but that probably depends on how much
you drink.
If you'll excuse me, I'd better go and practise.

Doesn't the time just fly by?
Amy Runs for Life
Apr 13, 2004
*jogs through in her new 'Run for Life' t-shirt*
The t-shirt and natty hat have arrived so it's time to start training in earnest. I'm wearing the t-shirt - I may as well, before it goes in the wash - but not the hat. The streets of Leeds aren't ready for an ant in a bright pink hat just yet.
Day 1: Run 1 minute, walk 1 minute for 10 to 15 minutes. How hard can it be?
Another Hat Trick

I have three pictures on the front page today
. I really didn't expect to ever do that again now that we have more artists.

God is a Yorkshireman
May 11, 2003
I went for a long walk today along the bridle path between East Keswick and Sicklinghall. It's a very beautiful route through farmland, across the River Wharfe, over some parkland and then through the woods. The wild flowers were amazing. Bluebells, campion, meadowsweet, wild garlic, wood violets, may blossom. And it was good to see some proper birds rather than the magpies and pigeons we get in town. There were chaffinches, robins, wrens, willow warblers and, of course,
.
I walked just beyond Sicklinghall and then stopped to have my lunch. I'd just spread out my
(well, Bagpuss' towel really - long story) when it started to rain. When my chicken mayonnaise salad was so runny it wouldn't stay on the fork I gave it up as a bad job and set off back to the Antmobile but the sun came out again very quickly so I stopped and sat on a large lump of Yorkshire stone at the foot of an enormous oak tree to do a landscape painting
. It didn't turn out too badly. Mixed media - watercolour, dirt, greenfly and mayonnaise
.
There were a few other people around but not enough to spoil it. Most were on horseback
. Everyone said hello. I was nearly run over by a couple on mountain bikes but they missed me by inches.
The temperature was perfect for walking. About 16 or 17?C I would think. And it didn't rain again until I was safely home at The Nest.

Emergency Ward 42

The story so far...
Amy the Ant's brain is threatening to explode. The doctors have tried hard to stop it but they've run out of ideas. Most of them have also run out of the room. Please wear the protective clothing provided.
As if that wasn' enough, Amy's liver is now three times the size of the Isle of Wight due to some yet-to-be identified hepatitic rot. It is about to be declared a Hazard To Navigation.
Now read on...
Amy has a day out
Apr 3, 2002
I set out in glorious sunshine with my sunglasses on
in no particular direction. Hence I went a really funny route via Menwith Hill
and ended up at Fountains Abbey.
It was beautiful weather. 20 Celsius! I had the sunroof open on the Antmobile.
I did a pencil sketch and a watercolour - nothing good enough to share but I enjoyed them - and then I walked back along the beck, pausing to look back at the sun setting over the abbey.
The ground was just covered in wild flowers... primroses, violets, wood anemones... and the swans in the formal ponds were posing for photographs. I didn't take a camera with me. Then I walked the long way through the deer park and back to the Antmobile.
I came back through Ripon where the daffodils were spectacular.
It was the best day I've had for a long, long time. I'm so glad I went because another big area of high pressure is forecast so I'm about to be squashed back down again.
Third time lucky?

I may not be around for a few days. Time for another brain drain. Let's hope this one works.
More hospital.
Nov 2, 2001
I know: it's getting to be predictable... monotonous, even... but today I take my brain to see the brain doctor again. Let's hope he can mend me this time. And an extra 256 meg of RAM would be handy too - I wonder if you can get that on the NHS.
And back to hospital again.

Don't worry if I don't post for several days. I've got to go back into hospital.
Medical Bulletin
Jul 28, 2001
It seems strange that the treatment designed to get rid of one kind of headache ends up producing another kind of headache.
Things are pretty bad at the moment but can only get better, I suppose. In the meantime, please post very quietly.
Sshhh!
Having my head examined

Oh bother.

A visit to the eye doctor led to a visit to a brain doctor and I'm scared.
We're back!
Mar 13, 2001
I am here, and I've sorted my page out a bit but I'm very very busy so it will stay like this until Friday when I will have more time. In the mean time, welcome back everyone. Isn't it a relief?

London Trip
Sep 11, 2000
Tomorrow (Tuesday, 12th Sept) Peregrin, Roasted Amoeba and myself are meeting up in London. Is London ready for this?
We're going to the Tate Modern, The Dome, The London Eye, Computer Arts Live 2000 exhibition and possibly H2G2 Towers!
Back on Friday.
Graphic Ants
Aug 6, 2000
I have started to prepare for the opening of my new shop, Graphic Ants.
The business cards have come back from the printers and are now available at the (very catchy) page A400500.
Blowing my own trumpet

I'm sorry but I just have to say, immodest thought it might be, that the graphic of Amy in her working clothes is the coolest Amy graphic ever.
Guilty as charged.

I shot the pigeon ... but I did not shoot the deputeeee.
Will I get sued for mucking about with their advert?
I plead insanitary.

I have completed 200 work units. This was the number I said I would do at the outset of the project but I think I will continue. Why not?
