There's a letter missing from the following sequence. What is the letter?

J, S, ?, N, E, V, M, M

That should make it a bit easier... smiley

Ps I'm having a great deal of trouble staying online, so I might not be back for a while.

You must build 4 walls of a house with bricks measuring 18 inches by 18 inches.
Each wall is 30 feet by 30 feet.

Assuming that allowance for doors and windows is 400 sq feet, How many bricks are needed to finish the building?

There's not enough information there.

How deep are the bricks? I assume that the bricks would need to interlock at the corners, because you don't want it to fall over as soon as you walk away. You need the third dimension to calculate how many are needed in each wall.

Does the house have cavity walls? Because then you would need two lines of bricks, one about six inches inside the other...

Sorry, the bricks are 18by 18 by 18 inches.
No cavity walls.
Forget about interlocking at corners.

May I remind you that the question is:-
Assuming that allowance for doors and windows is 400 sq feet, How many bricks are needed to finish the building?

Can I give you a couple of clues?

Look carefully at the wording of the question.
What does my name tell you?

One brick to 'finish' the building (though I did calculate that you need 1120 bricks in total to 'build' it).

It took an extra 300-odd bricks to build mine - perhaps you made allowances for mortar?

There was no need to make any calculations to get the answer to the question. I put in a lot of red herrings.

I guess if you weren't mortaring them you could lay them two at a time (one in each hand) and so finish with two bricks?

You are given the numbers 777, 888 and 999. Using each of the numbers only once and adding, subtracting, multiplying or dividing, how can you make 999?
