Hello sweetheart! The fact that I've been reading another (& actually just barely started another)doesn't fully exonerate me for not posting here more often. Italy-circa roughly 1490-is the focal point of both s...actually, 'Leonardo da Vinci & Italy'. The second deals primarily with Leonardo & his Last Supper, but both involve Leonardo & the same handful of characters(at least in name). The first of the two, Leonardo's Swans doesn't seem to have a specific site but... http://www.bookreporter.com/reviews2/0385517068.asp - while the second, the Secret Supper has a website(a good marketing move) http://www.thesecretsupper.com . To be truthful, Leonardo's Swans-which I started reading the evening I bought it-has put Laura Esquival's Malinche on the back burner...actually, moved it off the stove entirely. It sits unread in the past 2 weeks, 2/3 finished.
Since that last posting, Randall & I have been on two more mall crawls. To Kingsway Garden Mall yesterday(when I purchased the Secret Supper) & Londonderry mall last Fri. afternoon. A pizza lunch for both of us yesterday, while he had a burrito platter & I had a ...A&W Mama burger. I've cooked some ibteresting meals, one of the better ones being a pasta e fagioli(beans folks )in a spicy creamy tomato sauce with a chorizo sausage. Another being one of the chicken/apple sausages with cous cous & veggies in a Nando'spepper & apricot sauce(that Was a great combination, the apricot picked-up or highlighted the apple).
And the weather hae been quite good, it's 23C right now, just after 10pm, I think it was 25 this afternoon. A high of 30 is forecast for Sat., after which it'll cool off somewhat. But getting back to this afternoon, I made a brief trip to the Italian Centre. I bought pasta, brocolli, green beans, , freshly sliced meat & San Pellegrino Limonata among other things. Oh & I stopped at their cafe for a Limonata with a couple Portuguese custard tarts - with a rather herculean effort I steered clear oj the bakery display case.
Planning to venture out tomorrow afternoon & stop into Fantasia for a sandwich(possibly a )& a gelato...must be the reading about Renaissance Italy. However, I'm roasting beans again - I had wanted to wait until I could very comfortably leave windows open for a prolonged amount of time. So I roasted 4 batches this past Sat.-meaning that the meter is ticking on at least 3, I suppose actually all 4. So my drinking should probably be confined to home for the foreseeable future, y'think?
Anyway you IM'd or at least 'knocked' just as I was starting this, but by the time I brought up the IM window, banged out 3 smileys & quickly sent them*sigh*I heard the door closing. So hopefuly you'll be online within the next few hours*fingers crossed*.

Hello sweetheart! Thanks so much for the e-card! I'm glad that your Mum's condition has improved after the stroke. Ahh but those waffles can work wonders can't they? She's extremely fortunate, to be so well cared for!
The day was a reasonably quiet one. Lunch with my parents & my Aunt... s'n'all. Randall & I had done our mall crawl thing at Kingsway Mon. & had somewhat of a celebration there. Of course now that he's sufficiently healed to resume said mall crawls, he's eager to do one again*sigh*Fri.(Londonderry this time).
I have a few more s going, including one that I just purchased this morning-you might say it sucked me right in! I set it aside at page 60, or thereabouts. Entitled Cinnamon Kiss, it's a mystery(starting in CA)by http://www.waltermosley.com ...I'll definitely be looking for some of his other s.
I had actually bought & started 2 others last week. One in a somewhat similar style to Cinnamon Kiss, although in a much more contemporary setting. The author's name is George Pelecanos & the is Drama City ...again, I'll be searching out more of his writing. That same afternoon I also picked up The Interpreter Of Silences by Jean McNeil. Originally from Cape Breton http://www.cbisland.com/index2.php?pid=34 (slideshow)I believe she's still a publisher in London England(or was as of 2005/6). An interesting sort of sociological novel set in Nova Scotia. And my purchase this past Mon. deals with a topic close to home , the place I pretty much call home(having spent some time in various parts of it). Although written by a retired Calgary Herald columnist, Against The Grain is-I find-a rather engaging look at the province of Alberta. Part travelogue & part character study, with historical perspectives & relevant social commentary. A subject I'm quite familiar with to say the least, with a few perspectives that I wasn't aware of.
So that's essentially what I've been up to this last while. Oh & had hair/beard trimmed Tues. afternoon. May very well try to get to the Italian Centre tomo...er, later today for a bit of grocery shopping. Hope to catch you soon dearest, but I understand the situation, alright. Take care, of both your Mum & yourself.
