The views you dismiss as those of "some lunatics" have now been shown to have a lot of credibility. They may even represent the current majority opinion of serious scholars. If the "hoax of the hoax" theory is correct, there is a far more plausible motive than discrediting National Geographic, namely the acquisition of 45,000 acres of prime forest land. The validity of the Tasaday is still very much an open question. Even those who doubt the original claims no longer consider the matter a deliberate hoax.
