Slightly off topic so sorry about that but this entry reminds me of a the most obscure crossword clue that I shall never forget that appeared in The Guardian a few years back.
The clue was written something like:
23 across - B (6,6)
That was it. Just the letter "B". The best answer I could come up with that fitted the number of letters required (6,6) was "second letter", B being the second letter of the alphabet.
The answer, printed the next day, transpired to be "bottle opener", B being the opening letter of "bottle".
(another clue by the same crossword composer was simply the letter "G" (the answer is a word of 8 letters but I'll let you ponder on that one!))
