Generally we tip people in a service industry who do not make enough money in wages. Movie actors do not fall into this category.

I still tip some people on Boxing Day (the day after Christmas) in England and on Chinese New year here in Hong Kong. They include dustmen, postmen, newspaper deliverers, milk deliverers, janitors and porters star

doctor ?

I'm not entirely sure whether I should take that as an insult; not desrving of a tip winkeye

Well, if I were offered one I would refuse anyway. It's going against the tenets of medicine really... unless you're a private doctor in which case, well, anything goes winkeye

Note to self:

1. Open eyes.
2. Turn head to face general direction of monitor.
3. Drink coffee.
4. Wait until the caffene kicks in.
5. Now read the text properly.

Sorry; I didn't read it properly, you must excuse my total and utter ineptitude to function at a reasonable level at all today.

I haven't had any sleep for two weeks, and as a concequence, am being a real pain in the ar*e.

You're right.

Yet we tip budding movie actors all the time when we see them waiting at tables.

Well when I delivered papers in my youth. We always knocked on everydoor the day of the last delevery before Christmas (even if they had already tipped us) to wish them a merry Christmas and to advise them of the date of the next delivery. Some of the customers then rushed to get their tip money. Those where the days of my biggest Christmas bonuses percentage wise. I took the equivalent of two and a half months salary one year. smiley If only everry Christmas bonus was that big. biggrin

When delivering papers, one of the best investments you can make is a box of cheap Christmas cards. My friends and I found that a card through the door in the couple of weeks leading up to Christmas would usually lead to tips from practically everyone on your route. Most years I could expect to make £60 or more from a 40 house route.

Of course, there was always the one person who'd watch you struggling up their path in 3 feet of snow and then demand to know why their paper was late smiley

Well clearly Paperboys get tips.
I was talking about the people who get up even earlier than that to deliver the papers to the shops from where you collected them
