I have written fanfiction for more than 2 years and these are absolute lies. Slash is not usually sex, it is usually very well written and rarely contains sex at all. You obviously read a few badfics and left it at that.

I have to disagree. Slash is usually sex and is usually badly written. The fact that you personally may write sensitive and intelligent, non-sexual slash fiction or that you know any number of authors who do the same does not change the fact that there are thousands churning out painfully bad PWP.

I'm afraid I can't agree with you that "slash is not usually about sex".

I'd be interested to know what fandom you write in? I've been writing fic for a fair while, and I also read and write slash. And my fic would appear to bear out your argument (since from about 12 slashfics, only 2 are rated NC-17 and actually deal with sex - but that's because I can't write it without blushing) - even while I disagree.

I like slashfic, but in general, if it is not actually NC-17 rated or actually dealing with bumping uglies, the general premise is that at least one character wants to have sex with one of the other same-sex characters. That is very bottom line and oversimplifying things, but I'd refer to anything else as "smarm" - a tearm I don't like.

If it is about friendship - then it would surely fall under the gen category?

Which isn't to say that I don't enjoy a well-written PWP - the more the merrier, and since I discovered Mag7 fic that's very well covered.

I agree. Not all slash is about sex. Fanfiction.net has band all N17 works. Slash is just the same as opposite pairings, there may occasinally be sex scenes but so what? If you don't like it, don't read it.

(Hope Mr.Prophet isn't watching this)
actually, I prefer my Slash to be without sex... I like the angst factor you can get with the slow realisation of what's going on.

But (this bit for Mr.P's benefit) hot monkey sex in the unlikeliest of places can be fun. But then it doesn't have to be slash.
