 | | In Scandinavia and several other countries a black cat means quite the opposite. They are considered very bad luck, and if a black cat crosses the road before you, you should turn and go back to where you came from immediately. You can of course examine the cat in question and see if he/she has any white spots. If that's the case, you might take the chance and continue your journey. White spots diminishes the bad luck considerably, but not entirely. Instead of losing your life, you only lose a limb, for instance. In medieval times a black cat accused of whitchery could get absolution if a white spot/small crop of white hairs was found on his/her fur. Normally you can find the (sometimes) absolving evidence under the chin or on the throat.

THE CAT THAT GOT THE CREAM,
IF YOU KNOW WOT I MEAN,
LEFT THE MILK FOR ANOTHER DAY,
THE MILK OF HUMAN KINDNESS
SAID THE BLACK AND WHITE CAT,
IS WOT IT AMOUNTS TO
ANYWAY
CLOTTED CREAM ON THE OTHER HAND,
IF YOU KNOW WOT I MEAN,
WITH RASBERRY AND CUSTARD TART,
IS NOT REALLY THE RIGHT THING,
FOR A CAT THAT CAN LOOK AT A KING,
BUT MORE FOR A CAT THAT LIKES TO FART
THE MILK OF HUMAN KINDNESS,
TENDS TO BE A LITTLE THIN,
DEPENDING ON WOT I FIND,
WHEN MY HEAD IS IN THE BIN
JUST THE CREAM, IS WOT I SKIM,
OFF ANY MILK I MAY FIND,
'COS I AM JUST A BLACK AND WHITE CAT,
OF THE BLACK AND WHITE KITTY CAT KIND
