I think we would all like to send our condolences to his family at this terrible time.

Send all our h2g2 warmth and friendliness to his family on behalf of us. We will all miss him, but his legacy live on in h2g2 and didn't he brighten up our lives.

This is completely and utterly terrible..cry

Me deepest sympathies to his family and everyone that knew him, he must've been a natural center of attention.

His books have become kind of a way to identify similar-minded people, at least here in Norway where it isn't really that large. If you get talking with someone, you mention HHGTTG, they've read it, and you know you're on the same wavelength!
So long, and thanks for all the way-too-late hours off reading in bed...blue

Cheers Douglas.

You have been a huge inspiration to me ever since I first read the guide. I know for certain that your work will continue to entertain everyone for years to come.

Take care of yourself. See you at the restaurant..

May your trip to the stars be pleasant Douglas. I am certenly not the only one who is deeply affected by the guide so you are not alone, only one step ahead, as usual.

How absolutely terrible. What a great shock.

H2G2 will live as a realisation of his fantastic vision.

Best wishes to all.

There is a Chinese saying: "The gods are jealous of geniuses."
Mr. Adams, your genius shall be remembered forever.
So long, and thanks for all the laughter you brought me...

I can't add much to what's already been said.

I used up pretty much everything I had on my own letter of condolence:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A546815

I won't ask people to repeat what they've already said here, but I offer the invitation for other researchers to add to it.

It would be nice if people could sign off with their real name and where they come from.

What more can I say? Douglas was my favourite author and his skill with language inspired me.

I remember the Guide being a sort of catalyst that brought together
my friends in high school; it was a welcome antidote
to many of our problems. Thanks Douglas, for helping to make me
who I am. And thanks too for your conservation work, and for giving
us a last chance to see that it's not too late to change our ways
and make the world better.
