Here are a few of my recent practice sketches of women's faces. Some of you might recognise one or a few (not all are of famous people). Anyways, faces are hard to get right. We've been speaking of facial recognition elsewhere ... I still don't understand just what are the cues that we use to recognise a specific face. Even the aspects that distinguish a feminine face from a masculine one are quite subtle. Anyways, as an artist this is something I still need to understand better and work hard at.

Those a great, Willem. smiley I love the depth and texture you've got into them.

Is is just me, or do you do something to make sure the viewer is drawn to the eyes?

I wouldn't have recognised any of these ladies, of course, but they are all lovely.

They are really pretty Willem. Thanks for sharing them. I think Michelle and Angelina would be flattered as well as their hairdressers.smiley

I am always drawn to the eyes as well

I'm impressed by them all but I am drawn to the last one most, I'll come back when I can find the words to explain properly why

Fascinating, Willem. I wouldn't have known any of the women, either, but that's not due to your way of drawing them. I could run into them in the street and wouldn't recognise them. laugh

Wonderful faces Willem, but the eyes definitely have it, they look in to my soul.

Hi Peanut, Bel and Websailor! Thanks for the comments. I do work hard on the eyes. But on everything else also. It's always a challenge, getting pencil lines to look like a real object, a human face being among the hardest! Hair is hard, too.

I think because you draw the eyes so well, it makes it very real, you can actually look into them. Interesting what you say about hair.

Just a general observation, but noses are a particular challenge for many people!
