Add fourpence and tuppence ha'penny and sevenpence three farthings. How much change do you have from half-a crown?

Is it one and thruppence three farthing, sir? I used to be able to do that with confidence - now it's really difficult - although farthings went long before decimalisation. Many people hated decimalisation at the time (not me, I was a schoolkid) but by heck, it's all much easier now.

Was a fourpenny coin a groat?

Four pence was a groat, no idea when that was in use though.
