Of course this prevents me from contributing to h2g2 at the time. I am also a member of a sports chat site elsewhere. When my connection from that site hangs it is very clear what has happened. I am also able to recover the page on that site, whereas on h2g2 it locks up my MS internet explorer and I have to relaunch the explorer. Now on the other site, my connection hangs when the webpage tries to link to adverts but fails. I wonder whether the same thing is the cause for h2g2 hanging - although some of the h2g2 pages that my explorer freezes on doesn't appear to contain adverts. This is a reply to this Posting   Posting 2 I have just noticed that at the bottom of every conversation is an advert. Presumably the h2g2 web page loads, then links to some other site which selects an advert, this material is then sent to the h2g2 site, which is then sent to my laptop. I believe it is this that is the cause of my connection with h2g2 hanging and being slow.
